“Of course,” I pause to look at him. “Can you call me Annie, though? I’m not used to my full name.”
“I didn’t know,” he sounds surprised. “Liam calls you Annalise.”
I flush at the realization. That’s true. “It’s different when he says it,” I stammer.
“All right,” he sounds amused. “Then Annie it is.” He pauses. “So?”
I nod. “What did you want to know?”
“You didn’t train much in your pack?” Elden inquires. “Don’t they train the Omegas in Moon Blood?”
I shake my head. “They train everyone who wants to and who has the abilities. Fighting is not my forte, though. I’m sure you noticed.”
“No, I wouldn’t say that. You have good reflexes. You just don’t know how to activate them because you didn’t attend any actual training,” he says.
“I only learned a bit from my father,” I admit with a shrug.
“And he didn’t want you to do more?” he asks with interest. “Brian is a pack warrior, isn’t he?”
I flush a bit. “He has a weak spot for me,” I admit honestly. “Looking back at it now, he could have been stricter. Or I could have been more persistent.”
Elden blinks at me, and then he flashes me a smile. Despite his usual stern expression, he suddenly looks really kind to me. “I have never met someone as honest as you are.”
“Say…” I muse while we walk back to the packhouse. “I feel my bond to Leah getting stronger. Is this how you helped Liam connect to his wolf too?”
He looks sad for a moment. “It’s more difficult to train a Lycan like Fenris. Liam was born a ruling Alpha. That’s different. He couldn’t just train with someone else. Fenris might have taken over and killed everyone around him.” He smiles bitterly. “I know the battle inside myself.”
“But he has perfect control now,” I state, proud of my strong mate.
Elden’s gaze softens. “He exceeded all my expectations. I had to demand a lot from him, though. I bet deep down he hates me.”
I smile. “He doesn’t.”
I can see Liam approaching us from the packhouse. He is next to us in a few strides, pulling me in his arms. He and Elden seem to stare each other down for a few seconds.
“Liam,” I put my hand on his arm. “I need to get stronger.”
“But training with him,” Liam sounds exasperated. “He is an ancient Lycan!”
“I’m not that old to be called ancient,” Elden states, amused.
His behavior fascinates me to no end. Iron Alpha Eldon is royal, an Alpha, strong. Definitely the strongest Alpha in the country and one of the strongest worldwide. Yet here he is. He has kept his humor. He is caring for his Omega daughter-in-law, and doesn’t mind his family or his Beta telling him their opinion and even showing their displeasure, as long as they don’t disrespect him.
“He is a training monster,” Liam tells me.
“I do think I deserve that blow,” Elden muses. “But Annie is right.”
“You are precious,” Liam mutters towards me, sounding almost pained. “She is precious,” he looks at Elden now.
“I won’t train her as I trained you,” Elden promises, his voice serious now.
Liam heaves out a frustrated sigh. “I have to go for a run now. Fenris is raging. He needs to let off steam.” He pulls me into his arms, taking a deep breath to take in my scent.
When I see him walk away, I feel bad for bringing up some family drama. I was so caught up in training that I didn’t think it might create tension. “He isn’t happy.”
“Yes, but he is unhappy with me, not with you.” Elden points out.
I tilt my head. “I know. I… probably shouldn’t have asked you to train me.”
