Jun tackles one of the guards, ripping his throat out with a growl. Another one comes to attack him, but Ari is faster, catching him mid-air and smashing him against the wall. I’m relieved I don’t need to worry about them. They have everything under control.

Meanwhile, Marcus comes at me again, jumping forward. I shift around skilfully, noting grimly how his attack goes into empty air, and he stumbles. It would have been easy to finish him off, he is weak as fuck, but I want to catch him alive.

Now more so than before.

I want every pack member of Red Claw to see his weakness and what a pathetic coward he really is.

I smash my body against him with my full force, knocking him against a pair of chairs and a table. I can hear something break, his wolf groans and whimpers. Before he can get up again, I’m hovering above him, the huge body of my wolf making it impossible for him to move. I bare my fangs at him. His eyes are wide in fear, eye to eye with my wolf now.

He is not shifting back to his human form, though, much to my annoyance. Apparently, he would rather die.

Annalise moves around on my back, searching for something in her backpack. Then she slides down before hitting a syringe into Marcus’ neck. He growls and thrashes around. “Aw,” she sneers coldly. “Your body can’t handle wolfsbane? Poor little wolf.”

His body convulses, and he bares his fangs at her, making me hit my body against him once more. That seems to do it. The fighting spirit leaves his eyes and body. He is shaking and slowly turning back to his human self.

Dante is at my side suddenly, cuffs and a rope in his hand, tying Marcus up with a grim expression. His body is bruised. There is blood running over his neck and chest, the wolfsbane stopping him from healing.

Serves him right. Aryanna, Jun, and I shift back too, only realizing we are all completely naked when Annalise chuckles and rummages in her backpack. She hands us guys each a pair of pants and a very long shirt to Aryanna.

“Well prepared,” Dante says thankfully.

Aryanna nods, smiling gratefully.

Once Jun has slipped into his pants, he approaches his Alpha, landing a punch right to his stupid face. I can see the wrath in his eyes, the pain. He is young, not older than 16 or maybe 17. I let him punch Marcus again before I grab his hand. “Jun,” I say firmly. I don’t know why, but he reminds me of my siblings. “Let’s not finish him here. Remember your promise?”

He seems to struggle with his wolf but then bares his neck at me and lets go of the man.

“He looks so small,” Dante eyes Marcus over, grimacing. “Ella was right when she said he isn’t all that impressive.”

“I told you guys,” Annalise mutters. “You might need to be a narcissist and psychopath to pull off what he did, but you don’t need physical strength.” She turns towards me now, her eyes wide and fearful. I wonder why she is suddenly scared now and wonder what happened- “Are you all right, Liam?” she blurts out, tears swimming in her eyes.

Her hands move over my body, touching my chest and shoulders in panic. She circles me, stopping when she sees my back. They whipped me with a silver whip, and while Fenris almost healed me completely during the last hours, there will probably be scars remaining. She touches my back softly before making me raise my left arm slightly for her to slip through and lean against me. I wrap said arm around her shoulders. “I’m fine,” I say softly, kissing the top of her head.

I turn around, eyeing the bodies lying on the ground. My little group worked efficiently. “Now, let’s grab this asshole and drag him back to the pack. I linked my father already. He will gather everyone.”

Chapter fifty

Chapter 50 The king is dead, long live the king!

*LIAM*

Inourhumanforms,it takes a bit longer to reach the pack grounds again, but we use the time to calm down from the adrenaline rush of the fight. I make sure Ari is all right, but she tells me that they didn’t even really touch her or my other warriors. They just threw them in a cell and left, probably to focus on me. Philipp’s men were crestfallen, though, and the betrayal stung a lot. I don’t envy my father for having to deal with him later and with the consequences of what he did. His pack will need a successor, so it’s most likely his Beta will step up until his firstborn child is old enough to take over.

Dante doesn’t say much, but I notice his expression turning grim when he sees my back and the stab wounds to my side. He doesn’t comment on it, though and I don’t either. Bad enough that Annalise knows. Why unsettle everyone else further?

Dante is the one tugging Marcus along like the deadwood he feels like. He broke his leg and a few ribs while fighting me. Marcus’ breathing is shallow, but he keeps his glare aimed at us.

Annalise holds my hand the whole way back. Her hand feels so warm and small in mine. Goddess, I can’t wait to be alone with her and hold her in my arms. I swear I’m going to make love to her for hours. Her smell alone drives me crazy, that look of love in her eyes, the way she is so worried about me and asks me over and over if I’m all right. I can’t believe she was so well prepared and kept so many things in her backpack. At first, I wondered why she even had it…it seemed like dead weight to me. But then she brought out Claire’s antidote, the pants, and the wolfsbane. Fucking awesome.

She leans against my arm, and I can feel the warmth of her body. Shit, if we were alone, I would have pushed her against the next tree and taken her right there.

To my relief, we finally reach the pack grounds. The pack looks like shit, honestly. I can’t believe such a big and formerly wealthy pack looks like this. The houses are shabby. Everything seems to be worn down. The packhouse looks like a place some creepy wannabe Disney castle some villain would hide in.

There is a huge townsquare in front of the packhouse. A large fountain is in the middle and paths lead in all directions from it. It could have been a stunning place with some flowers and upkeep.

My father waits for us near the front. Around him, there are masses of people, proof of how big this place really is. There are our own warriors, but also Jace and his people. Alpha Cedric, Celine, and other wolves from Moon Blood, and even more allies.

And of course, there are the wolves of Red Claw.
