“Good night, Memphis.”

I step back inside. Ever has the TV on but her eyes are closed.

“Come lay down with me?”

“Can’t say no to you.” I chuckle and climb in, pulling her so she is almost on top of me.

“I love you.” I kiss the side of her head, inhaling her scent. Even after being here in the hospital, she still smells like strawberries.

“I love you, too.”

“What do you want to do about school?” Figure we should talk about that first.

“Are we going home?”

“Yes, baby, we’re going home. But I want you to finish.”

“I can do my classes online and help my dad. I’m sure Uncle Sal can move the filming location.”

“Whatever you want, I’ll make it happen.”

“Where will we live?”

“You know the back of the new property your dad has? The one that Anne is buying? I know about the little pond you like and I want to build on that property. He said we could. I’ll run it by Anne, but I don’t think she would mind.”

“Really? Won’t that be expensive.”

“Baby, I will move mountains to make you smile, no matter the price.”

She snuggles closer and I realize this is always where I was meant to be.

Chapter Forty-One

Ever

“This is so exciting,” Natalie says.

“I’m having déjà vu. You said that the last time he fought, when everything went to hell.”

“I promise it won’t this time, and it is exciting.” I roll my eyes, even though her excitement is infectious. There are a lot of people here to watch this.

“I have a feeling we raised a lot of money today.” Natalie looks around the stadium, seeing what I’m seeing. Not only are a lot of fans here, but there are a lot of celebrities too and hopefully they came with deep pockets and a lot of love.

“Not sure who will win.” I turn in my seat as Linc sits down, handing me a beer.

“Brick is a beast in the ring,” Linc states as Ariel sits down.

“Doesn’t matter who wins. It’s for a good cause and they’ll have a good laugh about this later.”

“I’m sure they will.” I roll my eyes again.

I hit my head when I passed out, so I was told to take it easy. My dad is right— that will be a funny story to tell our kids someday. Memphis still won’t laugh about it because he feels bad that I passed out, but one day, he will see the humor in it. And while I should be at home watching on TV, I’m here because nothing in this world will keep me from watching my hunk of hotness fight in the cage. When his abs quiver and the sweat shines on his skin, I feel an urge to lick him. I know, down girl.

Carlton takes center stage to announce the fighters. I can’t hear him as the crowd is going wild. They are cheering so loud and stomping and clapping, I’m afraid the stands are going to fall apart. But the sight that comes out of the locker room is worth it.

We all start laughing when Memphis and Brick walk out together, holding hands. Way to put on a show, guys. Brick found a sense of humor. Ariel smacks me and we laugh even harder as Linc rolls his eyes.

And then the bell rings and it’s a different story. Both men have their game faces on. There is lots of dancing back and forth and punches being thrown but no hits.
