“Lily, what are you doing?”
“Taking what’s mine.” She looks crazy.
“I told her to leave, but she wouldn’t.” Mallory can’t quite meet my eyes.
“Where is Skye?”
“Oh, she ran off to talk to Sal,” Lily cackles.
Is there a crazy one each season? Will there be one next season?
“Come sit. We need to get to know each other since we’re going to be together,” Lily smiles at me.
“We are not together,” I hiss.
“Oh, we will be,” she snorts. “You won’t have anything to do with Skye when you find out.”
“Find out what?” She doesn’t answer since we’re being called to leave.
Mason and Mallory are already out the door. I turn to ask Lily again, but she’s gone too.
What is she talking about? I don’t have time for this and I need to check on Skye.
She’s in the van, but she looks upset.
“So, you guys are exempt, but there’s a competition already going on back at the homestead. An obstacle course. The winners and the four of you will go head-to-head in another competition in the morning. You can’t go to sleep, though.”
“Can we make some coffee then?” Skye asks softly.
“Yes,” Sal replies. I don’t like the way he’s looking at her. He’s giving her a stern look. I can’t decipher it, but I don’t like it.
“Skye, are you okay?” I take her hand, trying to get her to look at me.
“Yeah. Can we talk later?”
“We need to talk,” I reply and she nods her head.
She’s hiding something from me. Makes two of us since I’m hiding things from the people I consider family.
That one night, where I tried to get her back, I hurt people. They don’t know it, but I did. I messed up. I should have walked away, but I needed her one more time. I needed to try.
When you love someone, you don’t give up. I think that’s the first time I admitted to myself that I loved her, still do. Just need to get past those hidden thoughts so we can move on. And get my ranch back.
“Oh Linc, Memphis needs to see you in the kitchen,” Sal says as we pull up to the house.
“Alright,” wondering what he needs to see me about.
I wander through the house until I get to the kitchen. He and Ever are sitting at the table, quietly talking.
“You summoned me?” I chuckle.
“You are correct,” Memphis grins and hands me an envelope.
“What’s this?”
“If you open it, you would know what it is, but since you’re stubborn and have to ask, I’ll tell you. It’s the deed to your ranch.”
“It’s what?” I collapse into the chair.
