“Gator, do you have a scan-and-fax machine?” I ask him after checking on the boys.
“I do.Do you need to email these?”
“Yeah, to the lawyer you found for me,” I tell him, grateful for his help.
“I’ll send it over for you,” he takes the paperwork and goes to his office.
Now I have nothing to do but wait for Zion to pick me up. I wonder where we are going.
“Gator!” Tex yells from the front door.
“What?”
“Check your phone,” Tex says. I watch as Gator pulls out his phone and briskly walks to the door and speaks with Tex.Gator leaves and Tex goes back to the office, returning a short time with my papers.
“Gator will be back in a little bit,” he says before joining the boys on the couch.
Wonder what had him leaving in a hurry. I decide not to think about it, not my problem. I go to my room, soak in the bath, shave everything and braid my hair. I decide on a cream tank top with a flowered cardigan and my brown boots to go with it.He said long sleeve, so if I get hot, I can tie the cardigan around my waist.
With nothing left to do but wait, I got out to the living room to see what the boys are up to. I watch the boys play games and see that Gage will have a good friend in Noah.I made a note to call a realtor in the morning and a moving company. I need to ask one of the guys if there is a storage place around here to store my things until I find a place.
“Ready?” I didn’t even notice Zion come in I was so lost in thought.
“I am.” I pat Gage on the shoulder, letting him know I’ll be back later and follow Zion out. I see his bike but not his truck. I’m assuming it’s his bike.
“I thought we could go for a ride,” he says, helping me on the back. I’ve never been on a bike before.I know he said he wanted to take me on a ride earlier, but I didn’t think anything of it. This is exciting.
“I’d love that,” I say, not knowing where to put my hands.
“Wrap them around my waist, but you have sit closer,” he says with a chuckle.I can feel his abs underneath his shirt and cut as he called it and my mouth waters.I’ve seen the man in all his glory and he really puts Sawyer to shame.
Zion takes off slow but soon we’re cruising and I start to laugh along with him. This is exhilarating and leaves me feeling free.We drive for a while until I see lights up ahead and he pulls into a house.
“Where are we?” I ask him as he helps me off the bike.
“A friend’s house. We can walk to Bourbon Street from here,” he says, offering me his hand.
“We’re in New Orleans?”
“Yeah, I know a really good restaurant down here that we can have dinner at,” he says as I take his hand. It’s not too crowded, but it’s early since Mardi Gras is coming up.I’m glad we came before the crowds, though I’m sure Zion would protect me. Most people jump out of his way, he’s huge and scary looking.
We come to a little restaurant and go right in. We seat ourselves as a waitress asks our drink orders. He even orders for us but I don’t mind, he knows what’s good.
“Noah seems like a good kid,” I say lamely.
“He is.His father wants to meet you. He and his wife are two of my best friends. His road name is Bones. Given name is Sylvester, but we call him Sly.”
“Bones?”
“You don’t want to know the answer to that,” he chuckles. I snap my mouth shut because I probably don’t want to.
“I…” I stutter not sure what to say.
“I’m not sure how this goes either,” he admits.
“I’m glad someone understands. I thought I would still be married, but that didn’t happen. It’s hard trying to start over.”
“You seem to be doing a great job and you raised a good kid.”
