“Kaylee already has coffee going at the clubhouse,” Ziggy says when I go for another cup.

“Kennedy?”

“She stays. She knows all about Plum and she will stay away from you and other men that claim someone,” Ziggy says.

“I want to apologize to her in person,” I say, and he nods.

We ride out to the clubhouse and see the lot is filled. Full house. I kick the kickstand down but stay in my seat for a minute and marvel at this legacy I have and how all these men are here for the club.

I hold my head high, striding into the clubhouse. Men send nods and greet me, and it gives me a sense of pride. Yeah, I need to get my shit together.

“Church,” I holler as I take my seat. The room fills up, standing room even.

I wait for the chatter to quiet down before calling the meeting to order.

“Thanks to everyone for coming down. We have a war coming and will need all the help we can get. Right now, I need a VP. Diablo?”

“If the brothers want,” he says, and I put it to a vote.

I hand him his patch that reads VP and he grins. He will be good for me. Bones was good for me but can’t change that as much as I wish I could.

“Now, Sawyer,” I turn my body toward the man in question.

“I will take my punishment,” he replies. He knows he messed up, but he also is a big help.

“Three months of prospect duty,” I tell him, “when you’re done with shit work, we’ll talk.”

“Yes, sir.” He does what any prospect does and gets scarce.

“Now I still don’t know the new replacement of the Montessori cartel. I’m proposing a sit down to mend fences and just to make sure that what happened with Plum was all her mom’s doing and that Ricardo was only helping out. I’m sure it’s a long shot. I’d rather it end at a table and not with fists.”

“And the fake MC?” Stetson asks.

“Jace is doing his checks, infiltrating the dark web looking for them. Even with what Sawyer gave us, we have little to go by.”

“I’m doing my best,” Jace says, and I give him a thumbs up.

“What happens when we find them?” Tex asks.

“We show them why they should have never messed with us in the first place,” I snarl and the others nod with a wicked gleam in their eyes. They went after innocent people and you don’t do that. Then they helped steal a woman I care for, though she might not care about me. Her right, I’m an asshole.

“Jace, keep working, let me know when you have something.” I call church to an end, and make my way to the bar.

“I’m going on a trip,” Diablo tells me, and I grunt. He is going to see Plum, though he won’t admit it.

“Have fun,” I wave him off.

“I’ll be a couple of days,” he says and I just nod.

“All right, asshole. When you’re ready, I’ll tell you where she is but get your head right,” he takes off and yeah, he’s right. I just don’t know why I can’t get there.

I watch as Rip goes with him. My rule is no one rides alone. I guess he wanted it to be me, but I’m trying to figure out my shit.

The clubhouse is empty now, others heading out, my guys at their regular jobs. Just me and the prospect and Sawyer.

Both are avoiding me, guess I’m great company.
