“It sounds trivial when someone says it aloud, but I was jealous. She had the perfect life, so I thought. I thought Sawyer loved me, and yet he married her. Then, they had Gage who was perfect. I felt like nothing. I had my career if you could call it that, but I wanted what Plum had. Every time I tried to kick the drugs, Sawyer was right there.”

“Where’s your mom?” Dixon asks. Her mom, not his wife. He’s pissed.

“She’s the one that wanted Plum taken. This was her idea. I heard her talking to Plum about how I deserved that money, but really she wants it for herself. The land she’s going to sell to Ricardo Montessori.”

We all reel back from that. He’s Cartel. Well, fuck.

“Once they get her to sign, he’s selling her. I tried to reason with mom, but when I tried to stick up for Plum, I ended up like this,” she sniffs.

“Where are they holding her?”

“Her basement,” Lyra says.

“In Cali?”

“No, at the house in Texas. But I think they moved her.”

“Call Ranger and Diablo,” I holler at Ziggy.

“What happened that day, Aunt Lyra?” Gage steps into the room.

“I was so fucking doped up, I couldn’t even see straight. Sawyer invited me over and soon we were fucking, that’s when your mom came in. I only said what I said because I was caught red-handed. I told the press that Sawyer and I were together for a while just because that’s what Hollywood wants,” she says sadly.

“I’m still mad,” Gage says.

“I know. You should be. I can’t say sorry enough. I am ready to go to rehab,” she says, and Dixon takes her hand.

“We know of a good one,” Trick throws out there as my eyes snap to him. Since she’s been shown to this room, he hasn’t left. Makes me wonder if he’s started feeling something.

“Here,” Cupid shows back up with a tray of broth and toast.

“How about you guys get out of here and let her family take care of her for a bit?” Zoe pushes us out.

“Can you stay?” Lyra asks, pointing at her and Trick.

Trick looks at me and I nod. She probably wants Zoe because she’s a female.

“Send Noah to my house to get more clothes,” Zoe says as she shuts the door.

“Ziggy?”

“On it,” he motions for Noah to follow him, telling him that Gage is with his aunt.

I start down the hall, not really looking for a destination. Scratch that, Plum is my destination, once I find her. One of my men corners me in the common area.

“They’re doing a sweep, but when we were there, we didn’t find a basement,” one of my men says.

“Let’s just call church so everyone is in the know,” I say, grabbing a beer and heading into the chapel, all my men follow.

Plum

“Stupid bitch,” I feel something sharp stab my stomach. I try to sit up but there is a body on top of me. Sawyer, to be exact.

He just stabbed me. I will welcome death.

He starts to punch me, opening up the cuts from the other day that haven’t healed. I don’t understand where all his hatred comes from. I never hated him. I loved him once. He will always be a part of my life because of Gage. But this man isn’t the one I married.
