“Well go on home,” he said. “I’ll have the doctor contact you once the appointment is scheduled. As for now, just get some sleep. You look like a walking corpse.”
I felt like it, too.
“Yes, sir. Thank you.” I was about to leave, but then I stopped and looked back at him. “How’s Harry doing?”
The captain gave me a reassuring look. “He’s fine. The bullet missed all major arteries and organs. He’ll be in a sling, so he’ll have desk duty when he returns to work, until he’s ready for more, but he’s alive and well.”
I nodded and left his office, going to my locker to put away my things and change out of my uniform.
Craig caught my eye from across the room, but I guess the look on my face kept him from approaching. I was glad because I didn’t feel like talking to anyone at the moment.
I just wanted to be alone.
