“My name’s Kai. Now shower,” he replies sternly, and an icy chill runs up my spine.
Rolling my eyes, I strip my clothes off and jump in the shower to do my thing. Hoping they aren’t just standing at the door watching the whole time. I stare at the tile floor as the blood rinses from my skin and circles around the drain.
A flash of me sitting on top of Stacie comes to mind, remembering the way it felt to slice her skin and feel her blood between my fingers. Then another image flashes through of Kai literally making me cum while the blade of my knife runs across her neck.Jesus fucking Christ. Damn deadly ass spider.Shutting the water off, I grab my towel from the hanger and wrap myself in it. Shadows surround me as I run my hand along the mirror to wipe the steam from it.
“Mmm, seems like you remember more than I was giving you credit for.” His voice comes out in a deep growl at the nape of my neck. My whole body litters with goosebumps at the sound of his voice, and the mere thought of his touch on my body again has my core already soaked.
“So you’re more than just a spider?” I ask, looking at him through the mirror.
“Of course I’m more than a damn spider. One day I’ll show you my true self. That’s not important; what is, is our next task. So hurry and dress that sexy ass,” he says, and as the shadows begin to disappear, I feel my ass get warm. Turning I look in the mirror and there's a red handprint, almost like he smacked my ass without ever touching me.
After I’m dressed and walking down the stairs to leave the house, my mom grabs me by the arm roughly, turning me to face her.
“Just where do you think you’re going? First your dad leaves after spewing some bullshit about the house being haunted, and now you are in and out all hours of the night. What is it you’re doing?” she spews, spittle flying from her mouth.
“I’m actually going to hang out with Charlee; I don’t know what Dad is on about,” I reply and jerk out of her hold. She grabs me again, even harder this time, and I know it will bruise.
She’s constantly leaving bruises on me, then tries to apologize and say sorry, she wasn't trying to hurt me.She’s not. Dad has mentally fucked her up.He is always up to something, leaves for work early and comes home late. When he is home, they just fight and argue, throwing shit back and forth at each other. It’s bad honestly, and most nights I’d rather be anywhere but here.
“Whatever, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then,” she replies, cutting through my thoughts. Nodding, I walk out of the door, and she slams it behind me, causing me to flinch.Sheesh, never a dull moment.
“She needs to stop hurting you, little Quinn Reaper. It makes me crazy when they touch and hurt you,” Sadie chimes in beside me. Where the hell she came from I don’t even know and don’t ask either. She just pops up, like a damn ghost; she’s just a damn doll instead.
“I take it you’re going with me tonight?” I roll my eyes as I continue walking to my car. She’s dead silent as I pick her up and set her in my passenger seat. Walking around, I get in and turn the key over, sparking the engine to life. Pulling away from the house, I get this eerie feeling as I circle past the house at the end. Savannah’s house. I feel bad for her really; she's just there all alone. I never see her outside or drive by.Note to self, remember to ask Mom the story about Sav.
“Good luck with that, but you can try,” Sadie says, finally deciding to talk.
“You’re right. She will probably tell me to get fucked or to ask Dad. Either way, it may be a dead end, but I’m trying,” I reply, strumming my fingers on the steering wheel, my irritation growing.
Seriously, I just don’t get their hatred towards her. I’ve heard her name thrown around before, and it’s like there’s some deep secret there, but not just by my mom and dad, others too. Shrugging it off, I drive until I pull up at the cemetery, where I see Charlee standing by the gates already, waiting for me. Our houses aren’t far, so at least she doesn’t have a long walk.
“Hey, girl, hey,” she says as I walk up to her, pulling a rolled-up joint from my pocket. After the night, let alone the last few days, I’ve had, I need to take a beat. She looks down at the doll in my arms and then back up at me. Almost as if she wants to ask something, but thinks better of it. Setting Sadie down by one of the old headstones, I turn and offer Charlee the joint.
“Hey, I see you managed to get away too. Wanna hit?” I ask. Taking it from me, she puts the joint up to her lips and takes a long pull. Releasing the smoke, she takes another drag before passing it back as we walk side by side deeper into the creepy cemetery.
This is somewhere I like to come when I need to get away from it all, especially the noise. Charlee thought I was batshit crazy the first time I brought her here, but now I feel like it's kind of become our escape from all the bullshit we deal with in school and everywhere else. Sometimes the bad bitch mask has to slip, and this is the only place I’ll let that happen.
Chapter 5 - Sadie
I watch as Quinn and her best friend sit and talk, passing that lit paper stick back and forth to each other. They both are so beautifully broken in their own ways. I’m not sure about Charlee, but my little Quinn, I now know why Sav picked her just for me.
Her life is a shitshow. I mean, probably not, but no kid should have to deal with the stuff her parents put her through. I just want to hold her, rock back and forth, and sing my lullaby to her until she falls asleep in my lap.Obviously, if she could fit in my lap.I’ll get Savannah’s revenge and Quinn’s too. We will make them all pay. No one gets to hurt them and live to tell the tale.
She doesn’t know it just yet, but the plan we concocted is coming together nicely. It was a lot easier to get into her head while she was dreaming than I thought it would be, and my little lullaby I sing just knocks her right out. Kai is getting attached though, and that wasn’t supposed to happen.
I guess as long as we kill who we’re supposed to, I really don’t care who he falls for. I really can’t blame him. If I had a heart,it might go soft for her. She definitely makes my cold porcelain skin feel a little warmer.
“What’s the next move, doll?” Kai comes crawling over my hand. There’s just enough moonlight to see his tiny dark body against my pale-colored skin.
“Well, we know Tatum is fair game, but I think Quinn should get the honors. As far as the little bitches at school that always pick on her and the assholes that are always trying to touch her, well that’s up to her,” I reply as I bring him up to my shoulder.
“Hmm, I say kill them all. Leave no one left alive, no one that’s touched her, anyway,” he spits, and in spider form he may look scary, but he doesn’t sound that way. Not to me anyway. His beady eyes just make it less scary.Chuckling, I watch as Quinn and Charlee make their way back towards us.
“Do you take your doll everywhere you go?” Charlee asks Quinn, and you can sort of tell it throws her off.
“No, not normally. Today I just forgot she was in my car, so I decided why not bring my creepy doll to a haunted cemetery?” She shrugs as if it’s just an ordinary thing. But I’m not creepy! She picks me up and carries me as we make our way past the old gravesites, to the parking lot. If I could stare daggers into her head I would. I’m cute, not creepy.
“Yeah, cause that makes complete sense. It’s okay, you’re my best friend. If you still wanna carry a doll around, I won’t judge.” Charlee chuckles with her hands raised as Quinn opens the door and sets me down inside.
