Only to discover that I had but a single flower left.

Shit.I was definitely going to need more than that.

"Something wrong?" Zim asked from the bed.

"No, I just have to make a short run to the shrine so I can prepare that awful tea I told you about this morning."

He groaned. "Oh, yeah, I'm totally looking forward to that."

"It might just save you."

"I know, I know. I'll drink anything you make me."

"Anything?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"Hey, I trust you. Don't take advantage of it."

"I would never."

"I know, that’s why I love you."

"Oh, is that the only reason?"

My mate waggled his eyebrows at me. I laughed and gave him a kiss before I left.

Here we go again.

Inwardly I groaned as I made my way to the shrine, but if that plant they had could save my family, then I needed to get my hands on it no matter what.

When I reached the shrine, the people there pretty much followed the same exact drill as last time, taking me straight to the person I wanted to see. It was kind of nice, really, because I really didn't want to lose time making small talk. I was here on a mission. I wasalwayshere on a mission, lately.

"I knew you'd come back," the high priestess greeted me when I entered her chamber.

"Did you see it in a vision?"

"No." She laughed a little. "I just had a feeling you would need more information at some point. You have a lot to learn."

My eyes narrowed at her. I couldn't stop it. She was talking about all of this so casually, as if my family's future wasn't hanging in the balance. If I'd received instructions on how to use my powers earlier... But no, I'd been left in the dark for most of my life. This woman didn't have any right to laugh at me now. "I didn't come because I needed more information," I informed her. "I'm simply out of dragonshine."

"You are?" It seemed she hadn't expected me to say that. "I thought you'd learn not to rely on it by the time you went through the stack I gave you."

"I don't need it for my visions anymore," I said, only because it bruised my ego to let her think I was less powerful than I was. I was a proud dragon, always had been, couldn't change that now.

"Oh? Then what do you need it for?"

I should have anticipated that question, and yet, I hadn't. Did I want to tell her about my plans, though? About the vision? If I wanted more of dragonshine, and quickly, it seemed I had no other choice. With a sigh, I began. "I need to make a tea from it. I saw it in my vision."

"A tea?" The high priestess' brow creased. "And you would drink it?"

"Yes. Then burn another flower and make more tea of the ashes for my mate."

"I don't understand," she mumbled, almost to herself. "Your mate is human, isn't he?"

"Yeah, he is. What does this tea do?" I asked, because it sounded like she knewsomethingabout it.

"It gives you greater magic, but..." She shook her head. "It comes at a price. That's why we don't use it that way."

"What's the price?" Not that I really cared. I would pay it as long as it helped me keep my family safe.
