CHAPTER15

Knox stoodby his post at the back of the room, trying not to punch a hole in the wall as he watched Greer serve drinks. He had gotten a fair share of ribbing when he clocked in by the other bouncers since she had screamed ‘fuck you’ through the entire hallway.

He would love nothing better than to spank her ass until it was bright red for making him so crazy all the time.It didn’t help his mental state when every time she opened that mouth, all he could think about was pushing her to her knees and giving those pouty lips something else to do.But that shit wasn’t happening.Well, not unless she wanted it anyway. He was only human, after all and she was a fucking goddess.

With a shake of his head, he tried to focus again on his job.So far, he hadn’t seen any of the men from the other night. He didn’t want them anywhere near her so he would have to keep vigilant if they did show.

About the time he had finally relaxed into his job, he saw them step up to the door.He had no reason to keep them out since they hadn’t caused any real problems last time, so reluctantly, he settled on keeping a close eye on them.

After looking around the floor, the men took a seat near the stage in Greer’s section.Knox caught her glancing quickly at him before throwing her shoulders back to cross the floor.

If he didn’t know her better, he would say it was a look of confirmation that he still had his eye on her.But that couldn’t be right. The woman wasn’t afraid of anything and she had made it clear on several occasions that she didn’t need him watching out for her.Too damn bad, he intended to do it anyway.

“Dude, if you stare at her any harder, you’ll set her on fire.”Knox rolled his eyes at the words from one of the other bouncers standing behind him.Funny thing was, he didn’t know how close to the truth he was.True, he hadn’t set anything on fire with his eyes yet, but there was always a first time.

“I don’t like those guys. They’ve been in here a couple of times and always get a little too grab-ass for my taste.”

“You work at a strip club, dude.Get used to it.”With a growl, Knox moved away from the door into the club to keep a better watch on the floor.

First, being called “dude” twice in one conversation made him want to punch something.Second, if he could keep his hands off of Greer’s ass, then everyone else could as well.

His eyes narrowed as he watched her giggle at something the ringleader of the group said, flashing a little extra bit of cleavage at him.Apparently, she was going forward with her plan no matter what objections he had.

It was like being tortured having to stand aside while Greer flirted with the men.Afterward, if anyone had asked him how long they stayed, he would swear it was days.In reality, it was only a couple of hours but during that time he had to stand idly by while the leader of the group kept touching her.

Finally, they stood up, tossing a generous tip on the table before leaving.Knox felt he could breathe for the first time tonight.Greer picked up the money then walked past him to take her break next to the wall outside where they had been meeting since he started here.

Turning, he almost made it to the door when he was stopped.

“Dude, they need help breaking up a cat fight in the back.”That made three strikes, next time he would make sure the man remembered his name the hard way.Knox turned on his heel to walk to the back dressing room.

Fights rarely broke out between the dancers, but when they did, they turned nasty in a hurry.Walking through the curtain into the dressing room, he found two of them wrestling on the ground, with one of the other guys trying to break them apart.Grabbing the closest one around the waist, Knox lifted her off of the ground, carrying her across the room.

“Put me down, that bitch stole my best customer,” she screamed in Knox’s ear as he fought to hold on to her while she kicked and pounded at him with her fist.

“Not my fault you’re too damn old for him to want all that fake tit in his face,” the other woman yelled back as she fought against the other bouncer.

“Hey,” Rondo, the club owner, yelled, walking through the curtain.“Y’all cut this shit out or I’ll throw you both out on your asses.”

Rondo was a little guy somewhere in his fifties, but he ran a tight ship.He allowed no fighting in his club, from anyone.

Knox turned the woman loose as she calmed down.“Thank you, guys. You can go back to work, there won’t be any more trouble back here. Will there?”he asked, splitting a look between the two dancers. When they shook their heads, Knox turned, striding quickly through the club to catch up with Greer on her break.

Walking outside, he looked both directions for her but came up empty.Deciding maybe she had ventured farther down the building than normal, he walked to the end before coming back.Scanning the parking lot one more time, he headed back inside, assuming he was in the back longer than he thought he was.

He scoured through the tables, but still couldn’t find her.It was fine. She was probably just in the bathroom. But when she didn’t appear for another ten minutes, he became concerned.

“Have you seen Brandy?”he asked the bartender. When he shook his head, Knox wove his way back to the front entrance, asking the bouncer on duty the same question.

“I saw her leave on her break, but I don’t remember her coming back. Why?”Ignoring the man, Knox pulled his phone out of his pocket, hitting her number on his speed dial.It went right to voice mail.

“Fuck,” he said.“You sure you didn’t see her?”The man shook his head before turning back to checking the ages of a group of college-age-looking customers.Knox tried her cell one more time before calling Dex.

“Hey, what’s up?”Dex moaned into the phone, obviously having been in a deep sleep a moment before.

“Greer’s disappeared or I think she has anyway.I can’t find her anywhere in the club and her phone goes straight to voice mail.”

Knox knew his voice was getting louder the longer he talked but he couldn’t seem to get it under control. He should never have involved his sister in this mess, let alone her innocent roommate.
