Vampires were the superior being in comparison to humans. Sure, they might look alike, but that was where the difference ended.

Vampires lived long, full lives as immortals. They were extremely fast and much stronger than their human counterparts.

“We’re going to separate. Deuce, you’ll be leading the beta team. Jacob, Ciro, Arad, Gale, Bjorn, you’re with him. Everyone else will be with Sorin on the alpha team,” Linkin began, going back over the plan.

They had one chance to take the humans by surprise.

Once the plan was reviewed, they separated. The beta team would circle around the back while Sorin and his men stormed the front. According to the plans, the human structure was not outfitted with the latest in technology. It had been an abandoned building that they’d taken over.

“Any questions?” Linkin asked.

No one raised a hand or commented.

“Vampires,” Sorin growled. All eyes turned toward him. “Hunt.”

Growls and hisses permeated the air. The moonlight showed off the shapes of fangs of his vampires. One by one they ran off, disappearing into the night.

Sorin turned and began heading in the direction of their destination. He pushed and rushed across the desert ground. The warm air blew past him as he picked up speed.

He dodged the large boulders in the dirt and cacti that were native to the region.

Soon, he slowed his speed. He came upon the cliff that overlooked the canyon were the structure was housed.

Kneeling behind the boulder, he leaned over and took in the scenery before him. Large spotlights carefully positioned on the property showcased the entire grounds.

It was a one-story building with a chain-link fence surrounding it. According to the information Devin had brought up about the property, the fence was powered to release an extreme bolt of electricity.

A paved driveway led toward the house. A few humans milled around the entrance.

“How many do you see?” Linkin asked, kneeling next to Sorin.

“So far, just three males standing around,” Sorin murmured.

“What are they doing?” Quinn asked from the other side of Sorin.

“Don’t know.” Sorin’s gaze swept the area. None of the men were the infamous Clay Weber. That was one man Sorin would personally deal with.

“Why are they armed?” Taos asked.

“Maybe they are the security.” Linkin shrugged.

“We’re in position,” Deuce’s voice came through the communicators.

“Hold.” Sorin narrowed his eyes as he watched the man behind the fence. One was communicating with a walkie-talkie. Lights appeared along the road that led to their entrance.

“Something’s going on. Hold for instructions,” Linkin’s calm voice sounded through the communicators to the other team.

A lone car pulled up to the fence. It opened to allow the vehicle to enter the compound.

The hairs on the back of Sorin’s neck stood at attention. He crept closer to the edge of the boulder to see who was in the car.

Silence commenced as they all observed two human males step from the car, chuckling. They walked to the trunk and popped it open.

The bottom of Sorin’s stomach gave way while one man took a familiar figure out and tossed her over his shoulder.

“No,” he whispered.

His mate.
