Puck
Sneakingout to come to Montana to see Emily has got to be one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever had. Also, the most satisfying, I think to myself as I lie in her bed with her head resting on my shoulder, arm and leg thrown over me, and snoring softly into my neck. Every time she exhales, I feel her warm breath on my skin, and it makes me feel alive.
Sully is the only one who knows I’m gone.
“Swear to fuck, brother,” he murmured into my ear that night when I needed him to get me out of town under the pretense of going on a run. “If you get yourself killed over this, I will never forgive you.”
“How would I get myself killed,” I snorted in amusement. But deep down, I was scared to death. Anything could happen. “I’d be more worried about yourself if I were you.”
Sully was going to go on this run that I should’ve been on. Club’s bylaws forbade any of its members from going on solo runs. It was something Wrecker pushed for years ago, and it was a huge victory for all of us when it got voted in church.
“If Wrecker survived his solo run, I will survive this one,” Sully rolled his eyes at me. It really was a miracle that Wrecker survived the one solo run Bricks forced him to go on. It was a trap. Wrecker knew it, we knew it, none of us could do anything about it.
Now I’m lying in Emily’s bed in Montana, fully aware that my stay here needs to be short before I go back to Texas.
“Hey,” she stirs next to me, almost kneeing me in the balls when she doesn’t realize the angle her leg is at across my lap.
“Hey,” I kiss her on the forehead, then go back to staring at the ceiling while I play with her hair.
“Why are you up? What time is it?”
“Time for you to sleep, babe,” I kiss her again. I’ve never kissed anyone so gently in my life. My feelings for her have grown over the last few months, the distance only seeming to make them stronger. I can’t shake them off, and I don’t even want to.
“When do you ever sleep, Puck?” she teases me, not even realizing how close to the truth she is. “You’re always up when I work at night, and you always seem to be up when we talk during the day.”
“I am a twenty-four-seven service like that, babe. Just call me seven-eleven,” I pull at a strand of her hair.
“Hmmm,” she stretches and pushes her tits against the side of my body. “You do offer full service at any time, it’s true.”
“You do this some more, and I’ll service you again in point two seconds.” I am joking, but not. I could slide right into her right now. She must be sore though, so I’ll leave her alone for now.
Emily doesn’t say anything, but she snuggles closer to me, burrowing her nose into me again, and sighing with happiness.
“I can’t believe you’re here,” she murmurs against my skin.
“I can’t believe it either,” I laugh, but then get serious. “You can’t tell anyone I came here, babe.”
My request makes her pop her head up from where she is resting it against my shoulder.
“I can’t even tell Becca?”
“Especially Becca,” I snort. That’s all I need. That girl would get on my ass because of Wrecker. All kinds of bad things could happen.
“Oh, okay. I thought…” She sits up and makes sure to pull the sheet up to cover herself with it. “I was hoping maybe you’re here for my dad or something. I… So you have to leave?”
My heart is beating faster in my chest. I am really hoping to be able to come here for good once I am out of the club. However, that is something I can’t tell her, not yet at least, because it would only cause trouble all around.
“I do, babe.” I reach up and push a few strands of hair out of her face. “I am leaving by tonight actually.”
“Tonight?” Her tone sounds incredulous and like she is close to tears. “But you just got here.”
I let out a heavy sigh. I am just as distraught at the thought of leaving her so soon, but I don’t have a choice.
“Nobody knows I left, Em,” I try to explain. “Sully could be in so much trouble for covering for me. I can’t risk it.”
