Once outside, I took a deep breath and decided to walk a bit before going to get my car because I needed to calm down. I was tense, and barely contained fury was boiling throughout my body. That guy’s sarcasm in the jewelry store and the damn image of Devon with him were torturing me. I started walking faster and faster, trying to let the wind in my face clear my mind and take away all those images that were hitting me and making me more and more furious. After walking several blocks and calming down a bit, I understood that I was the hothead for allowing that guy to achieve his goal.

She was mine, she loved me. He was the one who was furious about losing her, and I had fallen into his game. I smiled and headed toward my car to return to the company.

—Screw you, Coller! I’m the one who has the most wonderful woman —I said, out loud, not caring that a couple passing by looked at me.

Chapter 22

“Doubt that the stars are fire, doubt that the sun doth move, doubt truth to be a liar, but never doubt I love.”

—William Shakespeare

Devon

Ifinished my consultation and was exhausted, but that day I had planned to go shopping for William’s Christmas gift. We were going to buy Aurora’s gifts together, so I only needed to get his. Before taking off the coat I wore during my consultations, I decided to call William.

—“Hello, ‘Dulce.’” —He answered after just one ring.

—“Hello, my love. Are you busy?”

—“Nothing important, I’m just in my office talking with Xavier.”

At that moment I heard Xavier’s voice shouting:

—“Thanks for telling me to my face that I’m not important. Hello, Devon, do you want to come have lunch with us? Or better yet, come have lunch with just me.”

—“Not even in your dreams, you idiot,” William said, and I could hear Xavier’s laughter.

—“I don’t want to bother you, I just wanted to let you know that I finished my consultation, but I’ll be late getting home because I’m going shopping.”

—“I have a meeting in 15 minutes and I suspect it’s going to be a long one, otherwise I’d join you.”

—“In this case, I prefer you don’t because I need to do this shopping alone,” I said, smiling.

—“Aaah, I understand now,” he said, and I could tell he was smiling, then he lowered his voice and added, “My best gift is you.”

—“Are you feeling romantic, Cavaller?”

—“That too, but mostly I’m...”

—“William, is Xavier still there?” I asked, interrupting him.

—“Yes, nosy Xavier is still here and he’s red with envy,” he said, raising his voice again.

—“I can’t deny that!” exclaimed the person in question.

—“We’ll talk another time. I love you,” I stated.

—“And I love you.”

I ended the call with a big smile. I took off my coat, packed my things, and left the clinic ready to go to a shopping mall.

Someone intercepted me when I was heading to the parking lot for my car. That someone was Lino. Why was he crossing my path lately?!

—“Hello, my queen. It seems like fate keeps bringing us together lately,” he said with a smile that I supposed was meant to be seductive, but which I found ridiculous.

—“Are you sure it’s fate, Lino? Because as I recall, this isn’t the clinic where you get your treatment.”

—“Are you suggesting that I’m following you?”
