“Lizette Lee resides at my camp. I wouldn’tcall her my own.”

“You aren’t having a go at the human, areyou, djinn?” asked Nace.

“Who I fuck is none of your business, shifter. Mind your own sex life.”

“What sex life? Haven’t had one since I tookover the North Shelters stronghold.”

“This female is different,” said Jarek.

Nace studied the djinn commander, his jageyes amber. “Hell. Another Firebrand falls.”

Jarek shrugged. “Not yet.”

Cadmon stroked his chin. “No matter what thejustices ask, stay as tight-lipped as possible about the BloodCoven descendants and the new intel on the Arisen Dawn group.”

“Why?” asked Nace.

“My gut. It’s kept me alive in many battles. So, I listen to it.”

A black-robed demon opened the chamber doorsto wave them inside.

Four of the most powerful warriors on Scathstrode into the sacred chambers, Cadmon leading the charge. Theirbacks were ramrod straight, their eyes alert.

Kole scanned the room. He feared nothing andno one, but he would be a fool to underestimate the beings in frontof him. A word from any of them could put his neck under theblade.

The rare eagle shifter Aras spoke from thehigh justice’s elevated throne. On each side of him were four otherrepresentatives of their breeds. “Welcome, High Commander Cadmon,Commander Kole, Commander Nace, and Commander Jarek.”

As one, the Firebrands pressed the palms oftheir hands to their hearts in a quick salute. “Justice and longlife.”

Aras locked a predatory stare on Cadmon.“Some of us have questions.”

“Ask.” Cadmon, his head tilted up toward thejustices, used his words sparingly.

As he leaned back in his seat, Aras pointedat the warlock Dolph.

“We request a status report on the ScionFirebrands’ current activities.”

“Not we, warlock. You and the demon,”interrupted Gilda.Pffft. “I trust High Commander Cadmon tovoluntarily bring his concerns to us.”

“As do I, Amazon. Please, Commander Nace?”Justice Dolph signaled the jag shifter to begin.

“The run-down. Absolutely. We’repeacekeeping on Darque where a pot boils over regularly. But anuptick in drug traffic is eating up warriors and time.”

“Why the increase?” asked Eron, pushing herlong, black hair over the shoulder of her robe where the insigniaof an eye with a dagger beneath it identified her as a justice.

The female demon was a recent addition tothe Temple. Kole knew little about her.

“Not sure, but we’re chasing it down,”continued Nace.

Kole admired the jaguar’s careful words ashe heeded Cadmon’s warning, not mentioning Arisen Dawn and itsnewly uncovered link to drug trafficking.

“Interesting,” said Eron. “Commander Kole, would you like to fill us in?”

Hell no.

“Sure. We’re assisting healers in the searchfor Blood Coven descendants.”

“Have they met with success?” asked HighJustice Aras.
