“All right. Okay. I’ll do it.”
Stepping away, Dax mumbled, “Damn. I neverget to kill anyone.”
“Not true,” said Tyr. “How about the coyotedrug dealer? You did him in.”
“Cage? He’s dead?” asked the ylve.
“As a doornail,” said Tyr.
“S’okay. Didn’t like him anyway. Say, couldyou stop the bleeding now that I’m cooperating?”
Dax grabbed the drug dealer’s arm, pulledhim close, and ran a tongue along the wound to seal it. “Let’s goto work. We’ll pop over near the bar. The warlock here is going tocloak us in a spell while you wait for this shifter in the alley.Get me?”
The Firebrands dragged the ylve to a portal, touched their D-chips, and materialized in a gateway nearFang’s.
“Here’s what we want.” Tyr fiddled with thesilver bar through his brow. “Some of the product, its street name, the seller, and when to meet him again for more. Once you have theintel, you’re done. Wait in the alley until we join you. If youcross us, Dax will find you… Well, you know the rest.”
“I’m not stupid. Make a buy. Get the info.Stay put.”
Dax patted the ylve’s shoulder. “You’re agenius.” He turned to Tyr. “Keep us hidden until the exchange.Afterward we’ll decide what to do. Maybe follow the dealer. Maybeget him alone in a quiet place later.”
“Good plan. Start walking, ylve. We’re withyou all the way.” Tyr shoved the male into the alley.
In an alcove where they could observe theirspy, Tyr wrapped himself and Dax in a thick invisibility spell.
They waited at least an hour until a shiftercame out the door of Fang’s. He shot a look at the ylve. “Youagain?”
Their bait stuttered, twitching like asonofabitch. “Sure thing. I changed my mind. I want some of yourstuff.”
“Why now?” The shifter’s eyes narrowed onthe ylve.
“Getting tired of the samey same. Yaknow?”
“Smart move. Join us. You’ll see things ourway.”
“Whose way?”
“Arisen Dawn. No other. We rule!” The dealerpatted his pockets, finally reaching into the back one. “Firsttime’s free. Find me for the next hit.” He handed the ylve a bag.“This is the snack pack. Snort it, or if you really like the stuff, mainline it later. Ya dig?”
“Yep. All’s good. What’s it called?” He tookthe pouch.
“Gold Dust.”
“Where can I find you if I want more?”
“There’ll be a next time. Trust me. Stuff’sthe shit. You’ll join us.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Name’s Karth. I’ll be around here for a fewnights.” The shifter’s glance took in the alley while he pivoted toreturn to the bar.
The ylve nodded.
Tyr dropped the spell. “Arisen Dawn.”
“Yeah,” said Dax. “They’ve moved into thedrug business. I wonder if Sabine or Nico know this.”
“There’s more.” Tyr jammed his hands intothe pockets of his leathers.
