He shrugged. “It wasn’t for me.”

“I almost gave up on college plenty of times, too, but I had my friends to keep me together. If it weren’t for them, I would’ve quit.”

I remembered it was my sophomore year of college when I was ready to throw in the towel due to the back-to-back homework assignments and projects we had to complete. The pressure was too much. I had never failed a class. As hard as it was, I pushed through and finished.

“Do you like football?” he asked.

I screwed my face up. “Nah. I know nothing about it.”

He threw his head back and laughed. “My bad. I should’ve asked if you’re a football fan.”

I shook my head, dismissing his apology. “No, there’s no need to apologize. I’m enjoying my time with you.”

“Good. I’m happy to hear it. Do you want anything to snack on? They have a vendor here that’s selling food if you’re hungry.”

I shook my head. “No. I’m not hungry right now.”

He inclined his head. “When you get hungry, let me know.”

“Okay.”

When the game was over, I was happy. I fought the urge to yawn so many times. He walked me back to my car, holding my hand.

“I don’t want our time to end right here. How are you feeling about ice cream?”

My stomach growled, letting me know I hadn’t eaten in a while. “I love ice cream.”

He smirked. “Good. Meet me at the ice cream shop.”

I arched a brow. “Which one?”

He laughed. “Sundaes Cone.”

I nodded. “Okay. I’ll meet you there.”

I didn’t waste any time backing out of the parking space and heading out. It had been a while since I had eaten at the ice cream shop. Usually, I bought my ice cream at the grocery store. I yawned loudly, causing my eyes to water. The drive to the ice cream shop would probably make me even sleepier, but I had to fight through it.

When I pulled into the parking lot of the ice cream shop, Melijah was already there. I arched a brow, wondering how in the hell that was possible. I left before him. He walked to my car with a smirk on his face. He opened my car door just as I turned it off.

“How did you get here before me?”

He smiled super hard. “I know a shortcut.”

He moved aside to let me out of the car.

“You should’ve told me about that shortcut. I took the long way.”

He burst out laughing. “I’ll remember next time.”

Inside the ice cream shop, it was chilly, and the aroma of baked goods and vanilla filled the air. Once at the counter, I gave them my order. Melijah gave his too. I got an ice cream cone, and he got ice cream in a cup. After we got our ice cream, we found a table at the window and sat down.

“You’re so plain,” I joked, eyeing his vanilla ice cream.

He stared down at his ice cream and chuckled. “I’m not into all those different flavors of ice cream. If it’s not chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla, I don’t want it.”

“Then why didn’t you get all three?”

He screwed his face up. “Nah, I’on like it like that.”
