I rubbed my suddenly tired eyes. “I don’t know if I deserve that kind of serious. I mean, I’ve gone my entire adult life without a serious relationship. Now, I’m scared, I’m mentally incompetent.”
“Girl.”
“No.” I interrupted. “I’m serious. Now add to that the fact I carry a gun for a living and now man wants that.”
Eris sighed. “Listen to me. When I first met Ghoul, I had all those thoughts. I kept thinking that I knew a million different ways of killing a man and make it look like an accident. I have grown men who hear my name and are terrified of me. Who was going to want that? Then here comes Ghoul and I let my guard down for a second.”
“He loves you.”
Eris giggled. “And I love him. Think about it—I came into this relationship with baggage.”
“I don’t know why you’re so worried. You’re beautiful.”
“And so are you. You don’t have to be beautiful to every man out there.” Eris pointed out. “You just have to be beautiful to this one man. If he’s the man you choose, there’s a reason for that. I tell you one thing. You don’t have to make that decision right now. They always say not to rush into anything.”
“They also say, something things you have to rip off like a band aide.”
“Yeah—there’s a word for the people who say that—idiots.”
I laughed softly.
“Hawk, I’ve known you a long time. So, I’m going to give you some advice, okay?”
“Go for it.”
“Don’t do what I did—don’t overthink this. Remember, I almost lost Ghoul.” She paused as her voice cracked. “Let’s not think of a future or moving yet, okay? Let’s think of asking Angel out on a date. Flirt with him, see what turns him on—have fun with it.”
I blushed. “Flirt? Me?”
“Hey, if I can do it, so can you.” Eris laughed softly. “Now, this child makes me exhausted. Angel isn’t sleeping in a different room or on the sofa, is he?”
“I’m not that stupid.” I giggled. “Of course not.”
“Then go back to bed. Crawl into his arms and you stay there until you have no choice but to get up.” She advised. “Enjoy the little moments like going to sleep beside him.”
“Thanks, Eris.” I told her. “Sorry to wake you.”
“Girl, don’t even worry about it. We’ll talk later.”
With her gone, I pulled myself to my feet and let myself back into the suite. I poured myself some water and entered the bedroom. I drank half the contents then set the glass on the bedside table before crawling back into the bed.
Angel moaned and opened his eyes. “Are you okay?”
“Yes.” I kissed his nose. “Could you hold me?”
“Of course.” He turned to is side and pulled me in.
I sighed and snuggled into his warmth. The air condition in the suite was perfect but I still prefer his body. Angel kissed my nose then settled in again.
“Get some sleep.” He moaned. “We’ll have to get up soon.”
Eris’ advice swam through my mind and I smiled and gave in to her words. I closed my eyes, exhaled and allowed sleep to swim in on me. Being in his arms took away the darkness, the nightmares and the tossing and turning.
Angel woke me not long afterward. When I groaned and opened one eye, he was showered and dressed. I supposed he allowed me to sleep while he cleaned up and dressed. I ran into the bathroom to brush my teeth and rinse with mouthwash. When I returned, I kissed him deeply then gathered my things.
He ordered enough breakfast for everyone and by the time we were all sitting around, food was there and waiting. We ate while we went through the plan with Tex on the screen of someone’s laptop. Eventually, it was time to go. Eris and I walked head of the guys toward the elevator.
“Did you sleep?” Eris asked.
