I thought about his question for a second. “I’m not sure.”

“What can we do?” Chelsea asked.

“Nothing at the moment.” I kissed her cheek then patted her stomach. “It’s a party, right?”

The others laughed and the party continued.

It was about two hours later when I noticed Chelsea waddling my way. She seemed exhausted and I felt guilty for having her up so late celebrating me.

“Kid, do you mind terribly if we did presents now?” Chelsea asked. “My feet are killing me. This baby his trying to kill me.”

“She’s being dramatic.” Demon beamed proudly. “No one is dying.”

“This is your fault.” Chelsea tapped his nose.

Demon smirked. “Thank you!”

“Don’t be so proud of yourself.”

“How can I not be?” Demon asked. “I’m about to have a daddy’s girl. I’m ready.”

Chelsea groaned.

I laughed. “We can do presents another day. Demon, take her home.”

“Don’t be an idiot.” Chelsea paused to hold the side of her stomach.

I knew what that meant—the baby was kicking like crazy. Once it passed, she wrapped an arm around my shoulder and leaned heavily against my side.

“Presents.” She pointed.

I obliged her.

Though I wanted to ask Chelsea what her and Nella spoke about as Nella rushed out, I knew there was a code between women.

Chelsea was loyal and unless it was something she wanted to kick my ass for, or something wrong with Nella that we could help with, she wouldn’t say a word.

I respected that about her and loved her even more for my brother.

I tried focusing on the presents, but my senses were being clouded by Nella’s eyes. The sadness in them after Macy announced she was my girlfriend tore at me.

But Nella couldn’t be jealous.

Sure, she made flirtatious comments, but that was the kind of person she was. She was fun and happy and loving.

She came into my life with Chelsea. It was over two years now. I supposed once Chelsea had the baby, it would officially be two years.

Demon presented me with a small box Nella had left with my name on it. The grim look on his face told me he knew something as up between Nella and I, but he was the type of big brother who didn’t push—well, he didn’t push at first.

I offered him a smile and though I wanted to wait until I was in private to open the gift, I knew there would be questions.

“Who’s that one from?” Sean asked.

“Um—Nella.” I replied while peeling the birthday paper off.

It was jewelry. Since the box was long, I figured it was a necklace of some sort. When I opened it, it was a silver bracelet. I caught sight of an engraving on the interior of it, but I would wait until I was alone to read it.

The others oohed and ahhed over it.
