“Yeah.” Sean replied. “I wonder what they’re saying?”
“Probably pointing out that we’re here.”
When the guards looked over at us, we aved.
The car entered the gates and we settled back into our seats. Nella called to check in on us around the mid-day mark. We left to use the bathroom, grabbed food and returned in time to catch Emmitt leaving.
“Malik, he’s on the movie.” Sean called the cop.
“Heading my way?” Malik asked.
“Yes.” Sean and I chorused.
“Roger.”
We continued surveillance on Emmitt’s places. The only thing we switched up was the pairings of who was watching him at any given time. Though it was exhausting, and Nella was losing more and more hope until about the fifth day when she broke down in the bathroom.
I climbed under the shower with her, sat on the floor of the bathtub and drew her into my arms. We stayed that way, her crying into my shoulder until she ran out of tears.
I dried her, dressed her, and brought her to spend time with Chelsea.
As the best friend, Chelsea allowed Nella to fuss over her as I left the house heading for Jade like slowly simmering volcano.
When Jade realized it was me, she refused to open the door. I slammed my fist into the wood.
“I’m not going anywhere, Jade.” I called. “And I have no shame. I will cause a giant ass scene on your front steps and I give zero fucks who sees.”
That got her attention, and she opened the door and stepped aside.
“You’re sending cops to my door now?” She demanded.
“Let me ask you this.” I glared at her. “Do you really want to find your grandson, or are you just pretending?”
“How dare you!”
“How dare I what?” I took a step forward.
She stepped back.
“I have questions.” I told her. “And you’re going to answer them truthfully.”
“Or else?”
“Or else.”
I sat, stretched my legs out in front of me and lifted my gaze to her. “I don’t care what you do in your life. But when your actions start affecting Nella…”
“I thought you were about Jeremy.”
“You think there’s a difference?” I asked. “Jeremy means the world to her. And you know hurting Jeremy put the screws to Nella.”
Jade didn’t speak. Instead, she tried looking indignant.
I didn’t buy it.
“Where is Calie’s real will?”
“I don’t—”
