Kid
Though the hospital was buzzing with people, I didn’t want to leave Nella alone. The last time I did, some derange cabbie tried taking her out.
That was still sitting on my conscience.
Demon and Mamba were busy, but Sean arrived to stay with her while I went out.
I left the hospital long enough to get us some food. When I returned, Sean was in the hall, across from the door.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
“She’s getting a physical.” Sean replied. “Didn’t think it was cool to be in the room.”
I walked over and stood in the doorway as the doctor checked her out. I waited, watching this man put his hands on my woman and wanted to choke him.
I understood it was his job, but I couldn’t seem to help the green-eyed monster inside me.
Going back to where Sean was, I leaned into the wall and exhaled. For a moment, neither of us spoke.
“He’s a doctor, Kid.” Sean told me. “No need to get wound up so tight.”
“It’s that evident?”
Sean laughed. “You’re an open book when it comes to that woman.”
“Damn.”
“The thought of any other man touching her angers you.” Sean spoke softly.
I hung my head. “Immature, right?”
“No. You have a thing for her.” Sean explained. “You want her to be yours. There’s no shame in wanting to keep her body as your own. I’m pretty sure she feels the same about your body.”
I hope.
“Since you’re back, I’m going to head out.” Sean patted my shoulder. “I have an assignment due in a couple of days. Hang in there.”
We bumped fists and I watched him wander off.
When the doctor exited, I entered the room and sat on the side of the bed. Nella sat up and I set out some food for us.
A nurse entered and Nella’s face lit up.
“You’re still here?” Nella asked her.
“Heading off shift.” The woman replied. “I thought I’d stop in to see how you were doing, how that headache is?”
“I’m better.” Nella told her. “Um, Helen, this is Ronan Arrowood.”
Helen giggled. “The boyfriend.” She extended a hand.
I smirked while shaking her hand. Nella must have told her I was her man for her to say that. Pride ran through me like water tumbling over rocks.
It made me happy.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you.” Helen told me.
I wondered how Nella knew her.
