“I don’t know how to explain it,” she said. “He looked at you the way Demon looks at me when he thinks no one is paying attention. It’s this slow, all consuming way—like he’s sayingyou’re mine. All of you.Like,I’m going to ravish you, and you’re going to enjoy it.”

My cheeks flushed. “He’s younger than me—you don’t think that’s weird?”

Chelsea shrugged. “Demon is older than I am—much older. But it doesn’t take away from the love I feel every time he kisses me or touches my cheek or brings me flowers for no reason. The age doesn’t take away from the wonderful things he does for me, the fact he treats me like his queen. I love him more than I could have ever imagined loving a man. When I think back to my relationship with Patrick, I realize I never loved him. What I feel for Demon—Jesus, it’s everything. Don’t let Kid’s age wreck a good thing for you.”

I nodded.

Though I wanted to speak more about how I was beginning to feel for Kid,, he came back with Demon.

Demon waited until Chelsea kissed my forehead and hugged me before taking her away.

Kid helped me to sit up and we ate Chinese food and drank bad coffee from Styrofoam cups.

When he was lying in the bed beside me, with my head on his chest, Kid sighed.

“There was quite a lot of movement at the warehouse place.” Kid explained. “There is a basement, according to the floor plans. We’ve only had a chance look into a few of the buildings.”

“And anything?”

Kid pulled out his cell and showed me a picture. “Does this look familiar?”

I took the phone and looked at the backpack.

“I bought it for him last year.” I admitted.

“Are you sure?”

I nodded. “See this logo? It’s an original.”

Kid tilted his head. “Original?”

“Yeah.” I replied. “No one else has it. Jeremy created it after watching a live performance ofThrow Ya Fist.”

“What’s that?” Kid arched a brow.

“It’s a song by this Japanese group callThe Rampage.” I explained. “He’s obsessed with them.”

Kid nodded.

“I surprised him by having the logo added to the leather. He wanted the bag because of how it’s designed. The zipper is actually against his back so if you snuck up on him, you can’t open it without him knowing. He does graphics and have this high-tech laptop I got him a couple of years ago. He carries the bloody thing everywhere.”

Kid kissed my nose. “That means he was there.”

“He probably still is,” I told him.

“True.” Kid murmured. “I’ve asked Twist to look into who owns the property and see if she can find any red flags. In the meantime, Demon has set up cameras around the place today, so we at least have some eyes at certain parts of the place.”

“You guys did all that today?” I asked, impressed. “Shit. I only had to talk to my mother and winds up in the hospital with my head banged up. What a waste of an entire day.”

“It could have been worse.” Kid told me. “Trust me.”

“You’re right.” I groaned. “And it is worse. I would rather be home right now, in your bed. If you get my drift.”

Kid laughed softly. “I’d rather that too. But in the meantime, we have to work with what we have. Sleep.”

“Sir, yes sir.”

“Don’t sass me, girl.” Kid tapped my ass.

I giggled, snuggled closer to his chest and closed my eyes.
