“Really?”
“You made a business case for why we should date. With charts, Mark. How can I argue with that?”
“I know change sucks, and we—”
He captured my lips with his, his arms going around my neck. I kissed him back with everything I had. I dropped the laser pointer to the floor—another thing he’d have to forgive me for.
“Consider the merger approved,” he said.
Chapter 10
Sawyer
“So, you’re not my boss anymore. And on Friday you said you wanted to date. Your presentation is over, right? I can ask questions now?”
“Yes. We have time for questions. And no, I’m not your boss anymore. Yes, I still want to date.”
“Fantastic. Well, then if I no longer report to you, there are some things I’ve been wanting to say and do.”
“Feel free. The floor is open.”
We were standing close together now. The slide deck was still on the screen, but the rest of the lights in the office had turned off long ago.
Mark always kept his desk tidy. He didn’t like knick-knacks and things in his way. It was just a glass top with his computer and a desk phone he never used. The computer was near the projector, and the phone was missing. Perhaps he had the same idea I did and had cleared his desk beforehand? I did like a man who could plan ahead.
I turned us around so that I had my back to the desk, and I hopped onto it.
“Fuck me over your desk, Mark.”
Mark’s eyes darkened, and he opened my thighs so he could stand between them. “You’ve been thinking about this?”
“For months,” I said. “Every day. Every late night. Every meeting. I’ve been a good worker for you, right? I think I deserve a bonus.”
He growled, then crashed his mouth over mine, swallowing the rest of my words. The kiss was hungry and urgent. His hands gripped my hips, and he pulled me closer to the edge. His hard length pressed against mine.
“You’ve been the best employee. They should make monuments in your honor. You’re fantastic, Sawyer.”
My face heated. From anyone else it would sound sarcastic, but from Mark it meant the world.
His lips went to my neck, but he kept talking. “You know me better than anyone. You anticipate my needs like no other. I lie awake at night thinking of ways I should praise you for your thoughtfulness, your attentiveness, and your delicious ass.”
“My ass?”
“Yes, it drives me wild.”
His hands made quick work of my pants. I helped him, kicking them off until they landed in a heap on the floor. My shirt was next. Mark retrieved supplies from his desk drawer. Of course he was prepared. That was so perfectly Mark.
“You planned this,” I said, half accusation, half admiration.
“I hoped,” he corrected, his fingers trailing down my chest. “There’s a difference.”
I pulled him closer by his tie, loosening it as I went. “Less talking, more action.” I tugged the tie loose and dropped it. Next went his shirt. When my hands went to his pants, he chuckled, the sound low and dangerous. “So demanding. I like this side of you.”
“You haven’t seen anything yet.” We were both naked now, in his office on display for anyone to walk in and see. I leaned back on the desk. The cool glass top was cold against my back, and I shivered. Mark would warm me up in no time. I spread my legs, putting my body on display for him. “Mark, I’m going to need you to show me how serious you are.”
He grinned as his eyes roved over my body. “You really are absolute perfection. In all things. It should be illegal for a person as amazing as you to also look this good. So hungry for me.”
“I am,” I whimpered. I needed his heat. His hands. His mouth. Anything. More than that, I needed more of that praise he showered down on me.
