“I don’t even know what’s going on! He pays me good, and I have a family!”

“I’ll make sure they’re taken care of, but I can’t risk you running back to him.”

“I swear to you that I won’t! Please don’t do this!”

I see the indecision all over Axel’s face. I can feel that the guy is telling the truth, so Axel must feel it too.

“Put a tracker on him and let him go,” Cole whispers. “I think he’s telling the truth, but if he’s not, he might lead us back to Charlie’s hideout.”

Axel walks over and cuts the ropes from the guy’s hands, then jerks him to his feet. “You know what I’m capable of, so if you don’t want to end up in tiny little pieces all over fucking Forest Grove, I suggest you keep your nose clean.” The guy nods fast, making Sean snort a laugh. Axel reaches into his pocket and then grabs the guy’s arm. “One more thing, stay away from shit like this and be there for your family. All Charlie is going to do is get you killed.”

Axel lets him go, and the guy runs out like his ass is on fire. We wait until he leaves, and Cole turns to Axel. “Did you tag him?”

Axel holds up the plastic from the back of one of the trackers. It’s small and sticks directly to the skin. You can’t find it unless you’re searching directly for it. “Yeah. If he goes near Charlie, we’ll know.”

Axel jerks his head, and Cole grabs one of the grenade launchers. We make it outside, and he sets it up to fire while we climb into the truck. The first shot hits the warehouse with a boom so loud that it echoes. Cole reloads and fires again at the other end. The warehouse goes up in flames and a cloud of black smoke. Cole climbs into the car with a giant grin on his face.

“You’re hard, aren’t you?” Sean asks.

“As a fucking rock. I love that damn thing.”

Axel shakes his head and turns the car around. When we get to the main road, he lays his hand on my thigh and squeezes. “Nice shot back there.”

“I missed, though.”

“You saved Kai’s ass,” he argues. “You’re still new at this.”

Sean pokes his head up between the seats. “It’s hard as hell to line up a shot with an automatic on the run like that. You did a damn good job, Sexy.”

“Thanks,” I say, embarrassed. Any of them would have hit their target dead on, and they know it.

“How far out do we have to be if he was just jamming at the warehouse?” Axel asks.

“They usually only have a five-mile radius,” I answer, trying Zane over and over again. I feel like if anyone would know about the jammer’s capabilities, it would be him or Hart. When he doesn’t answer after the fifth try, I dial Hart.

“You guys good?” he answers on the third ring, and I almost pass the fuck out.

“Yes. Was that you guys that blew something up?”

“Uh, yeah. It was Tay. He rigged it while we were sweeping the place. We currently have one drugged in the hatch.”

“Thank fuck,” Axel breathes when he realizes that no one is dead.

“We think that Charlie had perimeter alarms, and when he was alerted, he shut down our communication and trackers,” Hart relays. “I already called Evie to let them know we’re safe, but no one can get ahold of Ryder’s crew or Ghost’s.”

“They’re probably still in range,” I say.

“Nik says they have two minutes to answer, or he’s going there,” Hart replies. “We’re heading back to Abbs Valley now. You guys keep calling Ghost, and we’ll keep trying Zane. Let us know if you hear anything.”

“Will do,” I answer and hang up. I dial one person before I try Ghost. When Chelsea’s voice filters through the line, you can feel the relief from everyone.

“Nolan,” she says, her voice shaky. “Is everyone okay?”

“Yes, Lovie, we are. Charlie jammed our signal and trackers. Can you see us now?”

“I saw them as soon as they popped up. Are you on your way back?”

“We are.” I swallow past the lump in my throat, remembering what she said before I left. There’s something I should have said then, and I’ll be damned if I let the moment pass me up again. “I love you. I know it’s too soon, but I know what I feel. You’re my world, and we’re coming home to you.”
