“And was I wrong?”

Ghost looks suspiciously like he’s blushing, and I grab ahold of it with both hands. “Does Nik boss you around, Ghost? And your dirty ass likes it.”

Ghost shrugs. “He takes care of me, and that’s all you need to know.” He looks at Chelsea. “He’s awake and expecting you. He’s kind of hard to understand because of the tube, but other than that, he’s doing good.”

Chelsea nervously adjusts her hoodie. “Are you sure he wants to see me? He got shot because of me.”

“No. He got shot because his dumbass jumped in front of a bullet,” Caden says, walking around us. He pops a kiss on Chelsea’s cheek. “He’ll love to see you.”

“As long as he doesn’t get any ideas,” Axel points out.

I grab her hand and pull her toward the room before he can start on one of his jealous trips. I push the door open, and Gavin is sitting up in the bed, staring out the window. When he hears us, his face lights up with a smile.

“Hey, man,” I greet, walking over and carefully giving him a hug. “I brought someone to see you.”

Chelsea walks up to my side and grabs his hand. “I just wanted to say thank you, and I’m so glad you’re okay.”

“I’m fine,” he says, his voice coming out as a rough whisper. “Are you okay?”

“I am.” She chews on her bottom lip and then sighs. “I just need to know why you did that?”

“Because Sean would have been lost without you.” I nod because I can’t argue with that. Losing Chelsea isn’t something that I ever plan to do. “Plus, he would have been miserable, and he’s just whiney then.”

My mouth drops open. “You just had to ruin it.”

“We can’t have you getting all weepy on us.”

“Fuck off,” I laugh.

We pull up chairs and catch him up on everything that’s been going on. Axel comes in at ten minutes on the dot, informing us that we need to go. He shakes Gavin’s hand. “You earned my respect for saving my love, and you have a place on the Saviors if that’s the road you decide to take.” My eyes almost bug out of my head. Axel doesn’t hand out invitations to just anyone, so what Gavin did made an impact on him. “You might need some training on hownotto get shot.”

“Like you did, Captain peg leg?” Chelsea says, then busts out laughing.

Axel’s lips twitch. “Fair point. Either way, thank you, man.”

“Don’t mention it. And I’ll think about your invitation.”

We tell everyone bye with a promise to stay in touch. When we slide into the SUV, I blow out a breath. Charlie’s not going to strike in a place this public, but we have the drive back to Forest Grove.

Axel puts the car into reverse and backs out of the spot. “Dex and Ryder are going to follow us, just in case.”

I nod and settle back in the seat. The ride is mostly silent except for light conversation. When we pull in front of Chelsea’s house, I swear I want to jump out and kiss the ground.

I just want to bundle Chelsea into the house and cuddle with her on the couch.

Thankful to live another damn day.

Chapter12

Chelsea

Ican’t even describe the relief when I heard that Gavin was awake. I know it was a risk going to see him, but I couldn’t help the need I felt to thank him in person. He did everything he could to help me when he didn’t have to.

Apparently, the invitation that Axel extended to him to become part of the Saviors is something that he’s been planning on doing since the beginning. In a way, I hope Gavin doesn’t take it, but I saw the look on his face when Axel offered.

“What are you thinking about, Lovie?”

Nolan climbs onto the bed beside me and leans against the headboard. I slide under his raised arm to snuggle against his chest, which has become the norm for us. After his big speech in the office, I’ve looked at him in a totally different light. But I can’t push myself out of my own mind to act on what I’m feeling. I want nothing more than to feel them against my body again, but every time I get to that point, Brady’s words flash through my mind. It makes me turn into the girl I was when I first met Sean. But none of them have pushed; they seem happy to go at my pace. But how long will that last?
