“What about Ari and his crew?” I ask.

Axel rubs his temples. “It looks like it’s time for a meeting with all of them. Sean, call Ghost and tell him we’re pulling Ari’s team for now and to stay on high alert. They may need to look into giving him an assumed name and getting him moved away from that hospital. My guess is Charlie already knows he’s still alive.” Axel looks at Chelsea. “And tell him we have a beautiful woman who can do all the paperwork.”

Chelsea smiles at him, but it’s tight around the corners. We don’t want to separate her from her friends, but if that’s what we have to do to keep her safe, we’ll take her anger.

No matter how bad it is.

Chapter16

Sean

I’ve stared at my phone for ten minutes, trying to gain the courage to call Ghost to tell him his brother is still in danger. And that our other team might be part of the problem.

No matter how many times I think about that, I don’t see Ari betraying us. He’s put his ass on the line more times than I can count to save us when he didn’t have to, and so have Tyler and Keon. Charlie is getting in everyone’s heads because he wants us torn apart; he knows we’re stronger together.

I pull up Ghost’s contact, hit dial, and he answers on the third ring. “Why is Cole telling me that Ari can’t be trusted?” I explain to him what’s going on, and he sighs. “What the fuck am I supposed to do? I have a family to protect, Sean.”

“I know, man. Look, we don’t know for sure, but we don’t want to take any chances. I have an idea, and you aren’t going to like it.”

“Hit me.”

“I can have Chelsea make some fake documents for Gavin. Give him a new name and move him to Forest Grove for the time being.”

“And?” I knew he was going to pick up on what I’m not saying.

“If we do that, you guys can’t come around until this is over. Charlie will sniff it out in a heartbeat. Because for this to work? Gavin Augustus has to die.”

I hear a door open and shut. “You want me to send my brother to you with no contact? Why the hell would Charlie be after him anyway?”

“Charlie is going to look at anyone involved. He’s going to assume Gavin works for us because he tried to get Chels and Nolan to safety. Hewillcome back to finish the job. It’s just a matter of time. And until we find out who’s feeding Charlie information, no one can be trusted. Including Ari and his team.”

“This is fucked up.”

I laugh, but it’s without humor. “You’re telling me.”

“I wanted to talk to you about something else. Gavin mentioned that Axel extended an invitation into the Saviors. He does know that he’s not trained, right? We’ve shown him the basics, but he doesn’t know how to do what you guys do, and I don’t know if he’s up to it.”

“Neither did we,” I point out. “Axel doesn’t invite people into the Saviors often. He sees something in Gavin. That’s way down the road after he heals, though. I need to know what you think about moving him.”

“I don’t know, Sean. I finally have him back in my life, and you’re asking me to send him away when he needs me the most.”

“I’m giving you your best options to keep him alive. I’m not saying you guys can’t handle it. But you don’t know Charlie. He will continue to come after him. And this is temporary.”

The line goes silent, and I give Ghost time to think about what I’ve said. “I’m not going to take away Gavin’s choice,” Ghost finally says. “You need to talk to him. Hold on.”

“Hello?” Gavin answers, his voice still rough.

“Hey, man. How are you feeling?”

“Rough,” he laughs weakly. “But I’m getting there. What’s up?”

“There’s no gentle way to put this, but Charlie is going to come after you again. We aren’t sure who we can trust right now, including the group we have guarding you.”

“What do you need from me?”

“I need you to agree to be moved to Forest Grove closer to us and to let us kill Gavin Augustus until this is over. Chels can make you everything you need. If we figure out that Ari isn’t working for Charlie, he’ll go back to guard duty here instead of Abbs Valley.”

“Are Ghost and his family in danger?”
