Injured, she observed as excitement filtered into my mind.
Restrained,she added.
Both of those things gave me a sense of confidence to take my time with this execution.
Because they were all going to die for what they did to me.
For what happened to Charlie.
And this would be the first time that anyone from my village had fought backand won.
Kane kept his distance from me, but he’d already explained the importance of keeping the alphas alive on our way here.
Yet, he knew I deserved to witness their punishment. He promised me that they would wish for death, but we mustn’t give it to them.
I disagreed.
I kept a wall securely placed around my thoughts. I’d been plotting murder the entire walk through the caves, so it must have worked.
Because when they begged for death, I’d most assuredly give it to them.
Kane had explicitly told me that if I killed these alphas, others would simply take their place and any leverage we’d have over the other packs would be destroyed.
We were under siege and without that leverage, we wouldn’t come out of this alive.
He underestimated how little I valued my own life in comparison to the greater good.
It wasn’t just my life that Kane was worried about, though. He expressed that everyone in this estate, and the prophecy of the Moon Guardian, would die with the alphas should I give into my rage.
He hadn’t explained what the latter part meant. Would I lose my new powers?
That didn’t frighten me. I had been human all my life. While my newly acquired night vision would prove useful when hunting scarce wildlife, as would my improved strength and speed, I didn’t need fancy tricks to stay alive.
I’d managed so far.
And it would be a small price to pay to finally strike back.
And even if I didn’t make it out of this alive, death didn’t frighten me.
I stared death in the face every damn day.
My wolf filled me with a sense of sorrow that we would lose Kane. She longed for what he could offer.
Security.
Warmth.
Cubs.
The last thought made me frown. My wolf’s spirit didn’t seem like one to consider the future, so the idea of having babies surprised me.
Then again, it was animalistic instinct to find the most worthy mate and reproduce.
But what madeKaneworthy?
What did I really know about him?
All of his vows and promises could just be an elaborate ruse to contain a living vessel of the Goddess.
