No answer came. My legs weakened from worry, but I powered forward, trusting that nothing had happened to him.
A crashing sound came from behind us. I glanced over my shoulder to find the hybrid Damien had shocked coming after us. The creature was staggering, his legs weaving from side to side, his massive shoulders hitting the metal walls as he tried to catch up with us.
At the front, we found a mess of blood and body parts. Patrick was hacking at a fallen hybrid’s neck with his sword. His face was so splattered with blood, he was practically unrecognizable. He swayed to his feet, looking dazed. When he spotted movement, he raised his sword threateningly but lowered it as soon as he recognized us.
“We have to get out of here. NOW!” Jake ordered.
Patrick didn’t hesitate. Even if the order wasn’t from his alpha, it still carried that undeniable power.
“Where’s Eric?!” I asked.
But as we got closer to the van, I got my answer.
Rosalina was there, doing her best to drag Eric’s wolf toward the back of the van. His fur was matted with blood, and there was a huge wound in his belly.
“Oh, God, no!” I exclaimed, rushing to help.
“I’ll take care of him,” Damien said, extending his hands toward Eric and using his magic to levitate him into the back of the van. The wolf floated slowly and unevenly. Damien grimaced with the effort, but he managed to deposit Eric inside and quickly followed after him.
“Are you guys all right?” Rosalina asked me, scanning us with concern.
“Yes, you?” I said.
She nodded in answer.
“You drive,” Jake said to me. “I’ll help Patrick.” He pointed toward Ulfen’s beta, who was now lifting Ben off the ground. One of his legs looked badly injured, and he was too dazed to know which way was up.
Rosalina started toward the passenger side door and stopped when she noticed Marcus just standing there, holding Olivia in his arms. She gasped, her gaze flying in my direction, a million questions swimming in her green eyes.
There was no time for answers. Instead, I got behind Marcus and urged him to move, pushing him toward the back doors.
“Get in. They’re coming!”
He moved reluctantly at first but then hopped in just as Jake and Patrick got there with Ben. Ulfen and Khal got in next.
“Go. Go. Go!” Jake urged us.
Rosalina and I jumped in last. The front of it was badly wrecked and embedded in the building. I turned the key, praying. The engine came to life.
Unsure of whether or not I should get moving, I peered into the side mirror. Had they closed the doors yet? Three thumps on the separating wall behind me let me know it was time to put the pedal to the metal. I grasped the wheel tightly and accelerated. We lurched backward, metal whining as the van peeled out of the building. As I whipped it around, a hybrid appeared in front of us. I shifted to first.
My heart jumped in my chest at the sight of his hideous mug. Baring my teeth, I stepped on the gas and ran over the bastard. The van jerked from side to side as the back wheels cleared the lump. We sped out of there, and I couldn’t help but wonder how much I would come to regret tonight.

UNSURE OF WHERE ELSEto go, I drove toward Eric’s house. I kept checking the side mirrors to make sure no one was following us.
When my heart finally settled, I pushed my alpha thoughts outward.
“How’s everything back there?”
Jake answered right away.“Damien healed Eric and Ben. They’re going to be okay.”
I exhaled in relief. Rosalina glanced helplessly in my direction.
“Jake said that Eric and Ben are going to be okay,” I shared the good news with her, wishing I didn’t have to tell her about the one who hadn’t made it.
“Oh, God.” She buried her face in her hands and scrubbed up and down. I thought she might ask what happened inside the warehouse, but she seemed to understand, as she always did, that I was in no shape to talk about it. And maybe she wasn’t either. It had been a massacre outside the warehouse, and she had witnessed it.
