“To Elf-hame?”
I nodded.
He frowned. “I haven’t been in years. Last time was on a school field trip when I was thirteen, I think.”
“We wouldn’t be going to one of the tourist posts. We would be going to Elyndell.”
His eyes shot wide open. “Wow, that would certainly be interesting, but how.”
I pulled on the chain to retrieve Damien’s token from under my shirt.
“What is that?”
“Something Damien gave me before he died. It will help us get to Elyndell.”
“Well, what are we waiting for?”
Chapter 19
We started with a tripto Eric’s house to retrieve the elixir. Eric thought it was unnecessary to take it elsewhere, that it was safe in his house, but he didn’t argue. Damien had entrusted it to me, so he understood it was my decision to do with it as I pleased.
“You can flush it down the toilet, for all I care,” he said as we stood in his study, and he handed me back the small vial. I placed it in my breast pocket, feeling my anxiety kick up a notch as I worried about it breaking.
I stared at him as if he were simple. “I would never do that. This can save someone’s life.”
“A vampire’s life, you mean. The world could do without the lot of them.”
“I have to agree,” Jake piped in.
“Who’s asking you?”
Jake shrugged. “She’s an idealist.” He said it as if my respect for life needed an explanation.
“God, I’m glad I didn’t grow up a werewolf!”
Both men shook their heads as if to indicate I didn’t know what I was talking about.
