“Why would you?” Drevan asked.

“Oh, I don’t know… You only derailed my sister’s life. Twice.”

Shit!I was not in New York. Memories of last night rushed back into my mind. Drevan bleeding. My sister saving his life.

“It is not derailing if it’s destiny,” Drevan said.

My sister huffed. “How convenient.”

“I promise you, I do not mean your sister any harm. I would do anything to keep her safe.”

“Is that so?”

“It is so.”

The silence between them hung thickly in the air, and I felt the weight of Drevan’s sincerity in my heart. I knew, then and there that hewouldprotect me at the risk of his own life.

I inhaled deeply and slowly sat up. Dani and Drevan were standing across from me, staring at each other. As I straightened, rolling my shoulders and wincing at the stiffness, they turned to me.

Dani was still wrapped in the same robe I’d last seen her in, while Drevan stood bare-chested, the skin of his magnificent torso smooth and sliding over tight muscles like a creamy delight. I had to force my eyes to glance in a different direction.

“Good morning,” Drevan said, walking closer. “You look a bit better. I’m glad you slept.”

My sister rolled her eyes and shook her head, then stomped down the hall toward her bedroom.

“The Sunder siblings are all incredibly talented.” Drevan ran a hand over his side where the wound had been. There wasn’t the slightest trace of a scar or blood.

Suddenly, I was on my feet, shoving him hard with both hands. “God damn you, Drevan! You could have gotten yourself killed.”

Dani stomped back into the living room. Her dark eyes, so much like mine, bounced back and forth between the two of us.

Biting his lower lip, Drevan seemed to swallow whatever he’d been about to say.

“Wear this!” Dani threw a T-shirt at him. It hit his chest, and he caught it as it slid down.

“Pink?” He wrinkled his nose. “Not exactly my color.”

“It’s the only thing I have that will fit you. Wear it or—”

“You’ll unheal me,” he interrupted. “No worries. My manhood isn’t threatened. Real men wear pink, right?” Smiling his most devastating smile, he pulled the shirt over his head, while I tried to stay mad and not drool over his rippling muscles.

“Not the Sunday morning I was expecting,” Dani complained as she marched into the kitchen.

Drevan raised his eyebrows. “A bit grumpy, isn’t she?”

“I don’t blame her.” My hands twisted together in front of me. “Maybe we should leave.”

“Not until you eat this damn breakfast,” Dani called from her kitchen.

She was cooking breakfast? No wonder I’d smelled something delicious when I first woke up. Really, if she were any more capable, she would be a robot.

We walked into the kitchen to a plate full of scrambled eggs, toast, freshly brewed coffee, and buttered English muffins. My stomach growled at the sight of the food.

Drevan, honest to God, did a slight bow toward Dani. “I thank you for your hospitality.”

She blushed, becoming a bit disarmed by the gesture—something I’d never witnessed.

We sat down and started eating in silence. I avoided eye contact at all costs, while Dani took full stock of Drevan and me. Only the witchlights knew what she was imagining. I only hoped Toni hadn’t spilled the beans about my extracurricular interest in handsome demons.
