He was inside me, fully. For a moment he stayed very still, his lips tenderly depositing kisses along my collarbone, and then he started moving. His hips rocked back and forth, and with each movement, he seemed to go deeper and deeper. My arms went around him, and I pulled him closer, making him stay with me a little longer before he rocked back. That same tension from before started building inside of me once more.

After a few minutes, he stopped, his entire body tensed.

“What is it?” I asked, placing a hand on his face.

His eyes were screwed shut, and he was clenching his teeth. Finally, he relaxed. “It’s nothing. Just trying to make sure you enjoy yourself as much as possible.”

“But I already—”

He started moving again. Picking up where he’d left off, my body rocked with his, our hips grinding faster and more desperately. There was that pleasure mounting again, but this time deeper inside of me, and the feeling was so incredible that I couldn’t decide whether I preferred it. All I knew was that I could spend the rest of my life comparing, trying to decide.

Tension spiraled, pulling downward to a fine point until nothing else existed beyond our joined bodies. Everything was reduced to one pressure spot, then suddenly… a supernova of sensation exploded between us.

I moaned, and so did Kall. His lips crashed against mine, and we silenced each other as tremors rocked our sweat-slick bodies. Finally, he lay on top of me, spent, and we slept in each other's arms, the entire universe wrapped tightly around me.

CHAPTER 15

“Goodmorning,”Kallgreetedme as I opened my eyes to the morning sun. He had covered me with my discarded clothes and was leaning on one elbow, a tender expression shaping his handsome face.

There was a spark in his green eyes that hadn’t been there before.

I greeted him with a smile and ran my fingers through his mussed hair, trying to get one of the silky locks to flatten. It just sprang back up.

He kissed me gently, his mouth lingering on mine. When he pulled away, he hesitated for an instant, then seemed to make up his mind. “I love you, Sheela.”

The words hit me square in the chest, their meaning and veracity chasing away my sleepy stupor. I sat up, pawing around for my clothes. Once I gathered all of them, I slipped the T-shirt over my head. Next, I jumped to my feet and put on my underwear and pants.

Kall peered up at me, still sitting on the ground. He was frowning, the spark that had been in his eyes just moments ago gone. When I was done dressing, he stood and got dressed, too. I stared up at the trees, resisting the urge to look at him and catch a better view of…everythingin the daylight.

What is wrong with you?!I chided myself.

The man had just told me he loved me, and I wanted to get a better look at his… junk.

Why had he said that? And why had it affected me this way? I shouldn’t have been surprised. He thought we were mates, so it was a given that he would love me. Or was it? I had no idea how any of it worked, and despite what had happened between us last night, I still didn’t feel ready to face the possibility of a fate carved in stone.

During all my time at the Academy, my life had felt fixed. The last thing I wanted was to build another cage around me.

“Will you look at me?” Kall demanded as he finished pulling the shirt down, the muscles of his stomach rippling.

I did as he requested and met his gaze. I thought he would tell me something that would make me feel bad, but instead, he took a step forward and wrapped me in his arms.

His lips close to my ear, he whispered, “I love the taste of you.”

A chill traveled down the front of my body and drove straight to my core, reminding me of the way he’d pleasured me with his tongue.

“I want nothing from you. You don’t have to do anything, Sheela. You don’t have to be anything. To me, it’s enough that you’re with me. And I don’t care how much time you need. I will be here, without expectations, without demands.”

“I can’t wait tomake loveto you again,” he added, then stepped away, breaking the hug.

I stood there, feeling cold without his warmth against me. He had just gotten dressed, but I already wanted to undress him again. Like last night, I would take my time, and it would be my turn tokiss him.

Stop it!

He just told you that he loves you.

If I couldn’t love him back, this would only hurt him. I opened my mouth to say something but was interrupted.

“There you are.” It was Ila, peering at us from the edge of the parking lot, her figure mostly hidden by the heavy foliage. “I worried when I didn’t see you there.”
