“So soon?” Connor says.

“Yeah, it was those tablets the doctor gave her. They’re designed to bring on a heat.”

“This is a good thing, though, isn’t it?” I say glancing around at my packmates. Our omega in heat is what we’ve all been dreaming of since we met her. Now we get a second shot at this with no long drawn-out wait.

“No,” Silver says, “little thing’s fucking petrified at the thought of it.”

“Because she did the last one alone?” Connor asks.

“Yeah.”

I pick up my towel and march out of the gym. Our omega should be on cloud nine thinking about spending her heat with us. Instead, she’s scared. And that’s our fault. The consequences of our fuck up, I realize, are going to be long-lasting. Making things up to her won’t end with a hand-carved keyring and a beautifully designed nest. No, making it up to her is going to be a long-lasting thing.

I storm out of the back doors and out onto the decking, tugging out my phone and calling the opticians we visited a few days ago. I give my name and details and after some strong arm twisting on my behalf, the dude agrees to have one of my pairs of glasses ready for me by the afternoon.

Yeah, making her happy is my new number one priority.

I findher in the garden when I return from the optician’s later, rocking backwards and forwards on the tyre swing that hangs from the great oak tree. She budges along when she sees me and I drop down beside her.

“Silver and Axel told us about the heat business,” I say. “I’m sorry, Bea.”

She shakes her head. “Molly assures me there are worse ways to spend my time.”

“Usually I’d say, don’t listen to any of Molly’s bullshit, but she’s right.”

She shifts closer to me, leaning her soft body against mine. Her caramel scent is clear even above the aroma of grass and pollen in the garden.

“How you feeling right now, though, baby girl?” Her skin feels warm, warmer than it did this morning, and perhaps her scent is already sweeter. How soon will this heat be arriving?

“I’m okay. Missing the beach.”

“We’ll get you back there soon enough.”

“I was thinking, if my aunt says it’s okay, we could redecorate the condo, maybe build a nest there too.”

“More than one nest, huh? I never took you to be such a greedy little thing.”

“I’m learning to speak up for what I want.”

“Good girl.” I reach into the pocket of my jacket. “Talking of things you want …” I tug out the glasses case and balance it on my thigh.

“Oh,” she says, one side of her mouth curling in a seductive smile. “Is this what I think it is?”

“Better open the box and see, Omega.”

She shivers at that word and I make a note to use it over and over again. I bet it will make her all wet. Hell, I’m hoping these damn glasses will, too. I’m pretty certain I look like a frigging dork wearing them.

She strokes her finger over the box, teasing me, then snaps it open.

The glasses rest inside, folded up neatly. Carefully, she takes them out, unfolds the arms and examines them.

She glances from the glasses to me.

“Do we get to play Lois Lane and Clark Kent now, Omega?”

“Lois Lane and Clark Kent never got it on, you know.”
