“We got an offer on your house.”
I glanced up at Alexis, my eyes wide. “Already?” We’d barely listed my house. And even though it was “selling season,” according to Alexis, I’d expected it to take longer than a couple of weeks. “How does it look?”
“They offered $15,000 over list price. Cash. And—” she grinned “—they want to close by the end of July.”
My jaw dropped. “July? That’s…that’s soon.” I glanced at the calendar on the wall, confirming it was only a few weeks away.
She nodded. “It’s more than enough time to move, but only if you’re ready.”
I considered it a moment, dreading the idea of moving mid wedding season. Perhaps sensing my hesitation, Alexis said, “I’m not trying to pressure you, but you’re probably not going to get a better deal than this. Plus, they’re willing to pay closing costs.”
“Holy…” I blinked. “Wow. They must really want the house.”
She nodded. “They do. It’s their dream neighborhood. Great schools. Cute family.”
I swallowed, struggling to process it all. I’d gotten an offer on my house. One I’d be an idiot to refuse. But in saying yes, a new family was going to move in on my dreams. I shook my head—dreams I’d once had. Now, I had new dreams. And as difficult as it would be to say goodbye, I was ready. I was going to accept.
“Let’s do it,” I said.
“Are you sure you don’t want to sleep on it?” Alexis asked.
I shook my head. “I’m ready. I’m actually kind of excited.”
Alexis grabbed my hand and squeezed. “I’m so happy for you. I know this hasn’t been easy, but it’s so nice to see you happy again.”
I tilted my head to the side, a soft smile curving my lips. “I am happy.”
Incredibly so. For the first time in years, I was sleeping well. Living life. I was doing a job I loved, spending time with a man I loved.Whoa. What?I stilled. Did I love Harrison?
“You okay?” Alexis asked.
“Yeah.” I tried to shake away the question, but it wouldn’t leave me be.
Blair reached out to me, babbling and smiling. “Juju.”
I opened my arms, grateful for the distraction. “Come here, Blair bear.”
I grinned down at her, filled with so much joy and love. She was such a sweet little girl, and I laughed as she played with my cheeks. Alexis and I talked a little more about Sophia’s birthday party, until we were interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Oh, hey,” Harrison said when I glanced up. “I didn’t realize you were with a client. I’ll be in the lobby.”
“No,” Alexis stood. “It’s fine. We were just wrapping up. I need to get Blair home for her nap.”
“Alexis, this is Harrison. Harrison, this is one of my dear friends, Alexis. And her daughter, Blair.” I bounced her on my hip.
He shook hands with Alexis before launching into the most adorable, heart-melting game of peekaboo with Blair. “Aren’t you a cutie?”
“You’re a natural,” Alexis said, grinning at me as the two continued their little game.
But I couldn’t tear my attention away from Harrison. He was so sweet with Blair, and I could imagine him with Olivia as a little girl. But as great of a father as he was, I still didn’t want children.
“I’m out of practice,” Harrison said. “My daughter is about to get married.”
Alexis pretended to cover her ears. “No! I’m freaking out that my almost-nine-year-old has a boyfriend. I’m not ready to think about her wedding.”
Harrison chuckled. And when he smiled, small creases lined the corners of his eyes, only adding to his charm. “They grow up way too fast. Enjoy it while you can.”
Alexis smiled. “I fully intend to. It was nice to finally meet you.”
