A wet nosenudged my hand, waking me. My latest movie,Valentine Letters, had ended, leaving the TV screen black. It wasn’t the movie I had finished filming with Nick, but one released a few months prior—a movie Luke said he’d already seen but wanted to watch again.
Glancing to my side, I noticed Luke was asleep, his head on the armrest at the other end of the couch. Our wine glasses were empty, and our plates were still on the coffee table. Neither of us had gotten much sleep the night before, but for different reasons.
“Woof!” Amore barked.
“Shh!” I scolded, but it was too late. Luke woke.
“Hey,” he stirred. “Everything okay?”
“Amore has to pee.”
“Woof!” he confirmed.
“I’m going to let him out and then—” I stopped and spun back to Luke. “We never got my car.”
“Shit,” he breathed. “We didn’t change your code, either.”
I glanced at the clock on the microwave. “It’s a little after two. Do you think my car was towed?”
“Only one way to find out.”
I turned on the outside light and opened the door for Amore and hooked my thumb in his direction as he ran out into the backyard. “I don’t want to leave him alone without changing the code.”
“Then I guess he has to come with us.” Luke smiled.
“Really?” I grinned. His dark gray Mustang was pristine, and I didn’t think he would want to have dog hair inside.
“Sure, why not?”
“Just making sure.” I beamed.
After Amore did his business, we got into Luke’s car and drove toward the coffee shop.
“Do you work today?” I asked as we neared the parking lot.
“No, but I do tomorrow.”
“Does that mean I get you for the next twenty-some-odd hours?”
“I’m all yours, Franks.” He looked over at me, smirking, and my belly dipped, thinking about having Luke with me all day and night. “But I need to head to my place and grab some clothes and things.”
“We could go after breakfast,” I suggested.
“Are you cooking for me again?”
I snorted a laugh. “I’ve never cracked an egg before.”
Luke chuckled. “Seriously?”
I lifted a shoulder. “What can I say? I suck at cooking.”
“You did good with the spaghetti.”
“I browned some meat, boiled the noodles, and heated sauce from a jar. That’s easy.”
“And didn’t burn the bread.”
