Toforgive.

Ajax’s wand snapped, sending magic wrapping around me in response. He knew the look in my eyes when a fight was coming on.

But this time, his fist came next, connecting with my jaw and sending a burst of blood from my lip.

My Phoenix was at the end of his patience, flaring to life within me as dark shadows exploded all around my form. I roared in response, angry at both my beast and Ajax. I dove for the ex-Warden with a blow that held nothing back.

He was ready for it.

He dodged, easily slipping into a warrior stance where he let his emotions rule. His fury unleashed an array of attacks, some in the form of tiny daggers that were embedded into my skin only to dissolve a moment later and others in the form of physical brute force.

We crashed into a writing desk, demolishing it into a pile of splinters before Ajax’s fist created a new hole in the wall.

A single sound forced us both into an immediate standstill.

I held Ajax’s wrist while he dug his fingers into my hip, but we were now focused on Camillia.

She’d gone deathly pale, and the small sound had been a moan from her plump lips. The kissable feature should have been deliciously red, but it was now a sickly blue.

An unspoken truce settled between Ajax and me as we untangled from one another and rushed to her side. Ajax rested a hand on her shoulder, and he didn’t stop me when I bent over the couch on the other side to investigate the cause of her distress.

My Phoenix’s growl slipped through my lips when I felt a strange, magical energy slithering all over her skin. A single tear rolled down her cheek, startling me.

Cami wasn’t the crying type.

“Is Lucifer doing this?” Ajax demanded.

“I don’t know,” I answered honestly.

I could still feel the effects of Typhos and Melek engaged in rough, primal activities. Perhaps Typhos’s magic was retaliating in some way.

I met Ajax’s gaze. The blue flames in his obsidian eyes had only grown hotter, and I didn’t blame him. “I will find out what’s going on,” I promised him.

Thankfully, Ajax gave me a curt nod of approval.

At least we can agree on something.

Turning on my heel, I left Camillia in his care while I hurried down the hall to face Lucifer.

I’d never physically interrupted him when he was being this intimate with his prince. I’d never had a reason to.

Typhos Lucifer was my mate in a platonic sense. He protected me, honored me, and I served him in return.

Mate,my Phoenix echoed in my head, referring to Camillia and all the justification needed to interrupt the Hell Fae King.

“I know,” I told him as we reached Typhos’s door. I paused as I prepared myself for what I would face within.

This was a small act of defiance. One I worried was a precursor of things to come.

The ancient vow I had once uttered to Typhos rang out in my mind, feeling fragile now as my hand hovered over the doorknob.

I pledge my fealty to you, Typhos Lucifer, my mate, my king. Your enemies are my enemies. Your allies are my allies. Your desires are my desires. In this, we are bonded together as the equals you claim us to be—a title none of your kind have ever proclaimed for one of mine. My Phoenix will never again taste ash. My soul will never again burn because your source burns for us all. You have my eternal loyalty. My eternal love.

Nothing will break my vow.

This I promise in blood.

All hail the Hell Fae King.
