¡°Listen, Samantha,¡± he said, ¡°these guys¡ªthey¡¯re not like me.¡±
¡°I figured.¡±
¡°They don¡¯t care if it¡¯s the middle of the night.¡±
¡°Didn¡¯t think they did.¡±
¡°They won¡¯t¡¡±
I stopped in my step, spinning to face him with my arms crossed. ¡°They won¡¯t what?¡±
¡°They won¡¯t appreciate being spoken to like this.¡±
My nostrils flared as I clamped my mouth shut and breathed through my nose. ¡°Fine.¡±
Turning back to the Tavern, I walked with Isaac by my side, rubbing my arm. Although I
was livid with him, I was nervous.
Inside the Tavern, there were five men huddled around a table. Once the door
slammed shut behind us, everyone looked up. Each one of them looked scary in their

the pained breathing until the man at the head said, ¡°So, you¡¯re the veterinarian, huh?¡±
To the right of the man who just spoke was another with long light hair pulled back
into a ponytail with silver eyes. ¡°Was expecting more for a whore Wrench won¡¯t shut up
about.¡±
¡°Crow, fuck off,¡± Isaac snapped. ¡°You¡¯re the one who landed us in this shit tonight in
the first place.¡±
His eyes still lingered on me, snarling. ¡°Never woulda expected a girl like you to be all
over a fuckin¡¯ meth head.¡±
I snapped my head at Isaac, appalled, as he grew furious and he said, ¡°I¡¯m not a fuckin¡¯
meth head.¡±
¡°Sure used to be,¡± the man who I supposed was Crow said. ¡°Such a good cook, the
Freeways wanted to hire you back.¡±
¡°Crow, shut the fuck up. Wrench is right. We wouldn¡¯t be in this mess if you weren¡¯t
such a fucking idiot tonight,¡± the man at the head of the table said. Turning back to me,
