“Go for it. None for me, but I bet Whiskey will be happy to help you finish anything you can’t.”

Ry chuckled. “That’s for sure. He is not picky about food. He’s had to rough it as much as we have.”

“I didn’t think about that. But you’re probably the best boy, aren’t you?” Harmony said as she scratched him under his ears.

“He is. He’s saved us all more than once.”

Harmony’s stomach twisted just thinking about the danger they encountered on missions. She didn’t know how Meghan and the others dealt with the worry. Not that she’d ever be in their shoes. As much as she’d enjoyed her time with Ry and the other guys from the Red Falcon team, it was time to go. Hopefully without making a scene like she had when she arrived.

“Can I have my shoes? I’m going to head home.”

“Already?” Ry asked.

Doc laughed. He’d been sitting next to Ry while they were all chatting. Then he laughed harder when Ry gave him the middle finger. If she hadn’t been watching, she would have missed it.

“Yeah, I have some work to do.”

“On a Saturday evening? I thought you worked at the bank?”

“I do, but I’m trying to help one of my customers. He’s having a hard time and I’m trying to figure out a way to get underwriting to approve a loan for him. Anyway. It’s been wonderful meeting you. Thank you, both of you, for your help.”

“I’ll walk you out to make sure you’re okay.”

Harmony didn’t have the heart to say no, especially since she figured she’d never see him again. Might as well enjoy her time with him while it lasted.

After saying goodbye to everyone, they walked out to the parking lot, and she slipped her shoes on while leaning on Ry. More little shocks of electricity zinged through her. It was probably a good thing she’d never see him again. He’d be easy to fall for, except for his bossiness.

When they reached her car, she unlocked it and turned to thank him. Ry had other ideas. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her. His lips were firm as they slanted against hers with just enough pressure to curl her toes. Without thinking, she brought her hands up to rest against his firm chest.

Then it was over.

Harmony took a step backward and almost fell against the car, but Ry’s hands steadied her.

“I really enjoyed today, Harmony. I’d like to see you again. Would that be okay?”

Chrissy had been right. Or he was just being nice. The real test would be if she saw him again.

“I had a much better time than I expected. Mostly because of you and Whiskey.”

“Can I have your number? Or how about you add yours to my phone, and I’ll add mine to yours?” Ry handed her his phone, and she dug hers out of her purse and gave it to him.

“Okay, Ryder Purcell. And you too, Whiskey. Take care and thank you again for saving my butt and the cake.”

“My pleasure, Harmony Taylor.”

As she drove away with a wave out the window, she already missed the sexy SEAL and his dog. Would he call? Could he be the hero she’d been waiting her entire life for? Time would tell.

Five weeks later…

Ry pulled into the bank lot and found a spot near the entrance. After shutting off the ignition of his 1996 cherry red Ford Ranger pickup, he looked over at Whiskey, who was sitting in the passenger seat with his head hanging out of the window, enjoying the fresh air. The Red Falcon team had just returned from a month-long mission, and he’d come straight from the de-briefing to see the woman he hadn’t been able to get out of his head.

“Do you think Harmony will remember us?”

The dog tilted his head to the side like he was considering the question and woofed.

“I don’t know. It’s been over a month since Rafe and Meghan’s wedding.” Ry ran his fingers through his shaggy chestnut-brown hair. It was one of his tells when anger or worry rode him. “I bet she thinks I blew her off. It’s been weeks since I told her I’d be in touch. If she’d said she’d call or text but didn’t after all this time, I’d figure she was just blowing smoke up my ass.”
