“Damn, Wren. Are you going for the total annihilation of the witches in Silverhold?”

Wren just shrugged and snuggled into me.

“They are a bunch of traitors, and they are idiots if they think Venus can come through with any of the shit she promised. No self-respecting witch would follow a high priestess that asks them to prostitute themselves to men like Brody. If they want to survive what I have planned, they need to get right with our goddess and remember who they are.”

“That’s cold, Wren. Some of them could just be scared they’ll end up like Astrid,” Candra said.

Maybe they were, but I highly doubted it. They made sure Wren was gone when they killed Astrid, and no one pulled her aside to warn her so she could try to stop it. The witches all knew Astrid and Wren were close. I hadn’t known Wren longer than they had, but I already knew she was way too smart to fall for Venus’s bullshit.

If there were a sane, intelligent witch here, they would have known Wren was planning her revenge. If she actually had any secret allies, they would have said something by now.

Wren had no one left except Dakarys, Rajack, and me. Wren wanted to wipe out all the witches here, and she wouldn’t survive that. One of the witches would kill her, or someone in Silverhold would because she was on her own. I was glad she was coming with us, and I didn’t want to run from how complicated things were getting between us.

“We’ll stay out of it, but think this through, Wren,” Whisper said. “We liked Astrid, and we like you. Don’t get yourself killed trying to avenge Astrid.”

I wouldn’t let that happen. We were getting out of here. But if I had to steal hair from every single witch in Silverhold and let Wren channel me to kill them before we left to keep her from doing something that got her killed, I would.

We were too close to getting out of here, and I wanted to know more about her pet raccoon.
