“It amuses me, and I’m not removing it.”

Felix threw up his hands.

“You’re a knob. I don’t care how old and powerful you are.”

I had that coming. I wasn’t so full of myself that I was going to destroy Felix for insulting me, and I wouldn’t have done it even if he didn’t mean so much to Ripley. IlikedFelix and that he wasn’t afraid to insult me to my face... that was refreshing.

I still wasn’t taking the cock off his face though.

The timer on the oven went off. Just in time. Kaine would arrive soon. Balthazar sprang into action and whipped out his phone.

“I need a witch or warlock to conjure some wind to blow his hair back when he sets the tray down.”

“I’m not using my magic to blow his bloody hair back for likes,” Felix said.

“I’ll do it,” Gabriel said. “I fully support Reyson trying to write a book.”

“Don’t you dare,” Ripley said. “Don’t use magic for the rest of the night. The magic is still working, even if you feel fine now. I’ll do it.”

This was a little strange, even for me. Social media was a strange beast, and I couldn’t leave this library just yet. I asked Balthazar to name me in the video. I wasn’t just getting my name out for vanity’s sake, no, I was also sending a message to Silvaria… wherever she was.

I was at the Library of the Profane, with Ripley. She wasn’t alone. I was not only with her, but I was devoted enough to her I was cooking her a feast. Whatever Silvaria thought she had that could control me, she would know Ripley didn’t have that same information. I was spoiling her rotten.

I’d been astral projecting to spy on her. I was about to make her life much more complicated than it was with just the Paranormal Investigation Bureau after her.

And when she made her way here, I was going to end her.

Ripley

No one needed to tell me Reyson was dangerous. I could feel the power radiating off him from across the library, and his aura was blinding. He could probably just think it and be able to kill every last one of us. He’d ripped that revenant’s head off with his bare hands, like it was stuck on with really shitty tape.

He was over seven feet tall, bigger than any shifter I’d ever seen before. Bram was massive, but Reyson was even bigger than a Hellhound. Reyson was total sex on a stick with his flowing hair, silver eyes, and massive physique.

You couldn’t stand next to him, feeling his power and presence, and think anything about him was cute. Not unless he let youseethe real him. Yeah, he was the God of Chaos, and he helped create the entire universe. He was also probably responsible for destroying a few civilizations—Reyson could be petty as fuck when he wanted to be.

He was also adorable as shit with anything food related and trying to win me over. Of all the shit he could do now that he was back on Earth, he wanted to write a fucking cookbook for my library… how precious was that?! He was trying to make fetch happen, with ancient recipes, and impress me at the same time.

It was so working.

I didn’t care if he never got published. It was the effort. He looked hot enough in my pink apron that even if he were miserable at cooking, someone would have let him write a cookbook. He wasn’t, though. Reyson was a fantastic chef.

He was amazing all around. He would have had no idea why we fangirled when we found out Balthazar knew Kaine Dragovich and could just pick up the phone and call him. All Reyson knew was that he could help us, and that he had our respect. It was Reyson that suggested cooking for him, and that was before he even knew Kaine was a hero. We filled him in when he wasn’t showing off on social media.

We were all waiting in the lobby, like I couldn’t bring Kaine up to my apartment on my own. Balthazar was known to spit out something silly, no matter how dire the situation, but he seemed to think it was us being ridiculous this time.

“Please don’t do this when he gets here. Seriously, he hates it when people make a big deal about him. He didn’t even like it when I tried kissing his ass when he was about to bust me for breaking into that warehouse. He had me handcuffed in the back of his car and was going to bring me in until I got real with him. This whole situation is totally fucked up and unbelievable. Kaine is going to think we are insane if we drop this story on him while acting like fools because of who he is.”

“If Balthazar is telling us we are acting like idiots, we should listen because no one knows that topic better than him,” Felix said.

I swatted at his arm.

“Be nice. I know you like Balthazar, and you haven’t known these people as long as you’ve known me. They are going to take it personally if you get all mean.”

Balthazar just winked at me and flashed his fangs.

“I’d be mean too if I had to poop in a box for the past decade.”
