“You know exactly what I mean,” he said.
I shook my head as I stared at the floor. “I would risk life and limb to keep her safe and happy. Whatever she needs, I want to give that to her.”
“What the hell happened to us?” Declan asked.
“She did,” Gunnar said. “Allana happened.”
“It’s not all a total loss,” I said.
Both men looked at me questioningly.
I smirked. “Even if she could only choose one of us, I still got two brothers out of this. And I would stand by you two through thick and thin. Like her, I would walk through hell for you.”
“Did you hit your head?” Declan asked, staring at me like he searched me for any sign of a head injury.
“That’s it,” Gunnar said with a laugh teasing his words. “Who are you and what have you done with the real King?”
I chuckled under my breath. “Again, Allana.”
“She really is a great woman. Too much so for us, isn’t she?” Gunnar said.
Declan and I nodded.
“She’s much, much more than I deserve or could have ever hoped for,” I said.
A few hours pass by with us talking about Allana and our dates. Before we realized it, the night bled into early morning. A maid rushed into the kitchen with a cart ready to stock for the breakfast bar. She took one look at the three of us, each likely staring at her, and she turned her tail around and headed back out of the kitchen.
“I have an idea,” Gunnar said.
“Did you not learn your lesson the last time you came up with a genius plan?” Declan asked.
I laughed. “What is it?”
“We make Allana breakfast and we take it up to her,” he said with a shrug. “That’s all.”
“That’s never all with you,” Declan said. “You and simple don’t belong in the same sentence, description, even on the same side of the world.”
I nodded, a smile teasing my lips. “He has a point.”
Gunnar waved us off. “Fine. Then I’ll do it all by myself.”
“No one is going to let that happen,” Declan said. “And you know it.”
“I hoped not,” Gunnar said. “You break the eggs. King, you’re in charge of cutting fruit.”
We each hopped off the counters and went to work making breakfast for Allana. It felt good working with them on something for her again. I was glad that we came to this. I had no clue that when this all started, we would end up as brothers, united by Allana. But I was never more grateful.
I had a family again. Reasons to live. To continue to fight. People I would die to protect. And it was the most profound feeling in the world. Though I thought I was cursed, I just needed a second chance.
And I was happy for the first time in years.
Would the wonders ever cease?

ALLANA
I had never felt more adored than I did when I opened my eyes, finding all three of the men who had captured my heart, sitting around me, with breakfast on a tray.
