“You didn’t tell me everything,” I said.

“You know what?” He shook his head and settled his attention on the trees to his left before facing me again. “Why don’t you admit to the fact that you want her all to yourself? And you can’t stand the fact that she hasn’t touched you yet.”

“I don’t believe in that stupid prophecy, and you know it,” I snapped. It was a lie. I put a hell of a lot more stock and hope into the prophecy being true. I was only lying to myself though. Calvin and Milo clearly saw through me.

I hated that.

“Yet, you used it to get to her. Funny how things just suddenly work when they go with what you want,” he snapped and pulled himself from the wall.

I glared at the man. It was taking much more effort to hold myself back than I cared to admit to. “You have room to talk! She was knocking on death’s door only hours ago. Such restraint you have.”

Calvin poked his head into the doorway to check on Alice before settling his anger-filled gaze on me. “Keep your voice down. She may be better, but she still needs rest.”

“Funny. You weren’t thinking about that when you were busy screwing her,” I snapped.

“You’re just jealous she chose me,” Calvin said.

My fists clenched at my sides. My nails bit into the palms of my hands.

“It wasn’t so long ago that you were standing outside with me, just as callous and jealous that she had Aidan first! Are you really that naïve that you think she would choose you? What do you have to offer her besides a life on the run? You’re a thief. You have no honor and nothing to give her but heartache and misery. Just like all the women you left behind before her. Or did you not remember what got you into this mess in the first place?” My volume increased with each word until I was screaming at the top of my lungs.

“Oh, and you have so much more to offer her?” Calvin asked me, pointing a finger into my chest.

Alice stormed out of the mill, looking ready to kill. “What the hell is the meaning of this!”

“Spreading your legs for everyone now, are we?” I snapped, setting my anger-filled gaze on her.

She glared at me seconds before she blasted me with white-hot magic. I flew backward, through the air, landing about fifty feet from the mill. Right on my ass. The pain of the landing shot through my spine made me grunt. It took me a moment to recollect my bearings before settling my attention on Alice again. I switched my gaze between the two of them. Her and Calvin. Calvin stood behind her with his arms crossed, acting all justified in his defense.

Please.

She pointed a finger at me. “You listen to me, Milo, and listen closely because I will not repeat myself.”

I rolled my eyes.

“I do not have to clear who I sleep with through you first. In fact, who I sleep with is absolutely none of your business. And if you wanted me in that way, you should have treated me with more kindness instead of a thorn in your side, you sorry, callous asshole.”

I stood from the ground, dusted myself off, and struggled exceptionally more with not laying Calvin out on his ass as well. He deserved to be treated in the same way as I had. The fact that Alice hadn’t done so was simply due to the fact that she didn’t know everything the rest of us did.

I spotted him smirking. He thought he was funny. That this whole thing is so hilarious.

Fine. Whatever. I had better things to do with my time.

I snorted, shook my head, and turned my back to them. They weren’t worth my time or energy. But my frustration needed to be released, so I headed into the woods to let off some steam. I passed Aidan as I moved farther away from the mill. I barely caught what he said as I passed him, but it was something to the effect of “She might just be saving the best for last.”

It almost made me stop to consider the comment, but Aidan was noted for not making much sense until recently, and he was exceptionally clever at hiding jabs with his comments. If he was trying to calm me down, he was failing.

Regardless of his motives, I didn’t want to waste any more of my time here. Just when I started to have a change of mind and heart, I was burned. The curse struck again with a painful slap and reminder I wasn’t loveable and would never be loved.

And they all wanted to rub that fact in my face. Well, screw them.

Screw them all.

ALLISON

I stared at Milo as he walked away, disappearing into the woods. He was lucky he had done so. I was so angry I could spit fire. Probably would have too, if I weren’t so exhausted and didn’t want to burn through the last of what was left of the afterglow of sex with Calvin.
