Once I pulled on my boots, I ran out the door and climbed into the bed of my truck.
Once the ignition clicked over, I peeled out, scattering gravel and bits of dirt as I rolled down the driveway. I had made it nearly to the end when I saw a silver sedan sitting on the side of the road. There was a woman in the driver’s seat.
She was most definitely not Tabitha.
For one, Tabitha, as far as I knew, didn’t drive. For two… the woman sitting in the front seat of the car was damn near the complete and total opposite. Tabitha was tall, thin, with lots of box blonde hair. The woman was plump with dark hair.
I sighed in relief. Part of me was still convinced Guy was yanking my chain. My heart skipped a beat as I started slowing the truck down.
Our eyes connected, and I was done for.
There I was, sitting in my truck, staring at the woman of my dreams, sitting closer to me than I thought was possible. It was hard to believe that instead of me coming to her, she came to me. It had to be kismet.
Fate better not be toying with me now. Else, I was liable to throw myself off a cliff.
Our eyes were interlocked. A strange floating sensation entered my stomach. My wolf stretched against my frame, desperate to get to her. My lips hung open as I struggled to reconcile what was going on with my body and who filled my vision.
Surprise and excitement filled me. All this time I thought I was going to find her. I had spent hours upon seemingly endless hours planning and rolling through scenarios. None of them involved her finding me first. But she had found me. I was still having a hard time believing my eyes. I wondered what it all could mean. If it was destiny.
I honestly didn’t know what to think … what sort of opinion I should have regarding the woman I wanted to be with the most had found me. But it also didn’t matter. She was in front of me. My agony was over.
Finally.
I slammed on the breaks, tires scratching along the gravel as my truck instantly stopped. I parked on the side of the road before I climbed out of my truck. The second I closed my door she was climbing out of her car. I couldn’t help but stare in wonder at her as she stepped toward me. But she didn’t stand toe-to-toe once she got closer. She kept a healthy two feet in front of us. Which was probably a good idea. I wasn’t opposed to ripping her pants off her and fucking her right then and there.
“Hey,” she said.
Oh my God, her voice. It was like honey pouring into my veins. A drug I couldn’t get enough of. It was better than I remembered.
“Hey yourself,” I said and smirked. “What are you doing here?”
“I know I’m probably the last person you want to see right now,” she started.
I shook my head. “You’re not.”
My words came out in a rush. Her steps hesitated. She slowly smiled and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. After a second, she continued her approach.
I breathed in deep. She smelled a little different. Something had changed about her. But I couldn’t tell what that difference was. Maybe my senses were all muddled through the alcohol and passion from that night.
She smiled and leaned against the side of my truck. “Okay… I came here because I needed to talk to you about something really important.”
I nodded. “All right. I’m listening.”
Though I couldn’t imagine what could be so important to drive all the way out here to tell me. That wasn’t to say I wasn’t glad she was in front of me. Or grateful for the chance to see her. Still, I was willing to listen and hear her out. After all this time, all the planning, I wasn’t about to rush through the visit if I could help it.
She opened her mouth to talk. Then the breeze kicked up, tussling her hair, and blowing her arousal straight into my wolf. I gripped the bed of the truck with one hand and pulled her in with the other, planting my lips on hers and holding her close to my body.
She stiffened at first, probably from surprise, because she almost immediately kissed me back and wrapped her arms around me. She melted into me, bending to my will. She was willing to do anything for me and that had my dick harder than pine.
My wolf stretched against my frame, forcing me to take a step back. I winced against the beast. I had almost shifted. My wolf wanted to claim her. But I couldn’t understand why.
What in the hell got into him?
She panted for breath, leaning against the side of my truck. She smiled. “That was some greeting.”
“Hop in. I’ll take you back to my place.”
“That would probably be best,” she said and started walking around the truck bed to the passenger door.
