Page 99 of Finding Mercy

About ten minutes later, my beautiful girl is sleeping in my bed, where she belongs.

I cover her with the blankets and go to make myself a drink, which I intend to bring to the bedroom. I can watch her and make sure she is okay. Something is comforting about watching her sleep.

I take a sip of my drink and hear a knock at the door.

I nearly sprint to the door so whoever it is doesn’t wake Mercy up. My girl is exhausted.

Opening the door, I cannot believe my eyes.

“Dr. Lexington.”

Ivy is standing in front of me. I can’t even believe it.

“I’m sorry, I’m not dressed. Come in.” I grab Ivy and hug her tight, “I’ll be right back. I’m going to get Mercy up.”

I go to the bedroom, pull on pajama pants and a t-shirt and get Mercy’s robe.

“Baby girl, get up. Put your robe on.”

“Why?”

“The police are here.”

She literally jumps out of bed and puts her robe on.

We walk out, and when she sees Ivy, she starts sobbing. Ivy runs to her and grabs onto her for dear life.

Mercy picks her up, takes her to the couch, and cradles her in her arms.

“Are you okay?” She asks.

Ivy erupts in tears, “I’m okay. I thought I would never see you again.”

The police officer glances at me, “We are going to need to have her come to the station to give a statement, but I felt like this reunion couldn’t wait.”

“Thank you,” I say.

“She kept talking about Mercy before we even left the motel she was at.”

“Was she hurt?”

He shakes his head, “We will see what we find out in the interview but at this point it doesn’t seem like it.”

I run a hand through my hair as I watch Ivy and Mercy talk to the officer.

“Please tell me you arrested her.”

“We did. And with her rap sheet bail is unlikely.”

My eyes snap to his, “Rap sheet?”

“Yeah, mostly drug and prostitution related offenses.”

“This interview can’t be done here?”

He shakes his head, “I’m sorry.”

I walk over to Mercy and sit beside her, “We have to take her to the police station, they need to interview her.”
