Desire raced through me. I needed to talk to her. To tell her how much more I wanted from her in the bedroom. It was selfish, but maybe she wanted it too. Maybe I was being stupid by making sweet love to her each time we got together. The first time we'd been together had been filled with heat and passion, but not since. The sex was good, but it wasn't great. Something told me that it was mostly my fault. It was hard to fuck a woman I was in love with. I wanted to take care of her, to hold her, to make love to her.
I needed to figure out how the hell to re-infuse passion into our relationship, and soon. She deserved it. I needed it.
"Are you all right with my sister, Natalie, joining us for the trip to Denver? I know Parks and Adam are going with us, and it's a little odd, but she really needs to get the hell out of here for a little while." I searched her face, noting a tone of disappointment. Was it due to Natalie or something else?
"Yeah, that's fine. I don't mind at all." She turned and opened the door before moving out into the hall. "Enjoy your morning. Let me know if you need anything."
"What if I need you?" I smiled, but she didn't return the gesture.
"Then I'm down the hall." She walked away, leaving me feeling more concerned than secure. I needed to talk with Parker. He was a whore and a half from what I'd come to know about him. He didn't talk much about his past, but whatever happened left him sleeping around more than most of the guys in a college fraternity, and that was saying something.
I dropped back down in my chair and turned to turn my computer on when the sound of his voice caught my attention.
"What did you do? She looks deflated." He leaned against the doorframe and gave me a look.
"Nothing. Shit, I don't know." I turned and typed in my password. "I need to figure out how to mix love and lust in our relationship. I just want to make sure she knows I respect her. That this thing between us is more about love than lust."
"Women like lust," he whispered roughly. "You're making her feel her age by not grabbing her hair and fucking her against a wall."
I gave him a stern look. "You always coach your employees like this?"
"Don't pull out that good guy shit on me." He walked in and stopped in front of my desk, leaning over and pressing his fists to the desktop. "You know what I'm talking about."
"I get it, but I'm not talking about this with you." I spun around in my chair and gave him my full attention. "Besides, how would you know? Have you and Becca slept together?"
"No, but I would in a heartbeat."
Every muscle in my body locked. "What did you say?"
"I would have before you, man. I wouldn't mess up what you guys have going. Becca is my best friend. If we were going to be together, she'd have let me in a long time ago." He sat down and slumped backward. "You gotta stop playing the good guy all the time. In the office and in public, yeah, but at home when it's just the two of you? Make her feel like a woman. Give in to the urge to pin her to the bed and remind her who she belongs to."
Heat raced through the center of my body and the room felt far too hot all of a sudden. "I don't want to objectify her."
"Objectify her? What are you? A hundred?" He snorted. "You'll know the difference when you get into the moment. I promise."
"And if she doesn't like me being rough?"
"Then you'll know it and you back off." He ran his fingers through his hair. "And it's not rough, it's passionate. Figure out the difference and stop living in second gear, Jason. Push the throttle forward and wake up before she does and walks away."
"She wouldn't do that. We're in love, Parker. It's not a shallow relationship."
"Right." He stood up. "Cause love has the power to save us all."
I didn't respond. I didn't need to.
Love did have the power to save us all. I was sure of it.
I just needed to make sure I didn't need saving at all.
CHAPTER 5
REBECCA
I'd just finished wrapping mine and Jason's gag gifts when Mary walked into my office.
"You almost ready?" She smiled as I glanced up.
"Yeah. I like that red sweater on you. It looks good." I put the last piece of tape on the gift and stood up. "There. Done."
