I smile and nod at everybody as if they aren't gawking at who I’m here with. This seems to snap them out of whatever trance they’re in, and they go back to their conversations and food.
Dash takes the booth facing the rest of the diner and allows me to sit with my back to everyone.
"If you want to change spots so you don't have to look at them staring at you, I'm more than happy to," I offer.
"Thanks, but I prefer not to have my back to the door."
Jenna comes over and brings us some menus. "Hey, Sky. Good to see you again, Dash. What can I get you two to drink?" she asks as if it's an everyday thing for us to walk into the diner together and grab a meal.
Hopefully, everyone will take her lead and not make a big deal out of it. We place our drink orders, and Jenna heads off.
The conversation isn't as easy as it was in the truck. I can tell Dash is uncomfortable, and while he's focused on me, every so often, he glances around the diner.
"Hey, ignore them. This is the first time they've seen us together. The more they see you out, the less they will care," I tell him.
Dash offers me a strained smile.
"Hey, Sky. Jenna sent me over," Austin greets as she walks up to the table.
"Dash, this is Austin. She runs the place. Her aunt owns the diner." I introduce them.
"It's nice to officially meet you. I took over about two years ago. I’ve been trying to get to know everyone in town," she says to Dash.
After that, the rest of the dinner seems to go pretty easily. A few people stop to say hi, but otherwise, they leave us alone. We finish our meal, and Dash doesn't let me get my wallet out of my purse.
"Don't even think about it, Sky. This is a date, and I’m paying. Don’t insult me by trying to pay."
I chuckle and let him do his thing. "Do you want to go for a walk down to the lake?"
The lake is only a few blocks from the town square. It’s well-lit, and a beautiful walk at night.
"Let's do it." He takes my hand and leads the way.
Once we reach the lake, Dash steps behind me and wraps his arms around my waist. A simple moment, but it feels so intimate. I’m still turned on from our time in the field yesterday, and this only adds to it.
We stand there for a little while in silence, watching the reflection of the moon dance on the lake before Dash leans down and whispers in my ear, "You ready to head home?" His grip on my waist tightens, pulling me against him so I can feel how hard he is.
I’m hoping he means something more than just dropping me off at my door. I turn around in his arms to face him. “Let’s go.”
The whole drive home, his hand is on my thigh and the tension in the truck is palpable. He glances over at me every so often, and the heat in his eyes sets off butterflies in my stomach.
“Would you like to come inside?” I ask before we get out of the truck, hoping I haven’t misread this whole night.
“Oh, I definitely plan on coming inside you tonight, sweetheart,” he says before his lips land on mine.
When he pulls back, he leads me into the house and slams the door behind us.
Dash
"If this isn't what you want, you better stop me now," I warn Sky as I take a step toward her.
She takes a step back until she hits the wall. "I want this," she whispers.
That’s all I need. I remove my boots and belt with my eyes still locked on her. Sky removes her shoes and sets her purse down.
"If you don't want to do this here, you know where my room is. I suggest you get there now," I growl because my room is the one place I haven't had her. I was never brave enough to try it.
"Maybe I want you to fuck me right here against the wall," she says with a flirty smile on her lips.
