“Seriously? I was being careful.”

“I don’t give a fuck,” he said. “Have one of the guys come in and do it.”

Jada snorted. “Yeah, like they’d do it the way we would and get every corner.”

“Why the hell are you doing this today?” he asked.

She looked down and sighed. “I don’t know.”

“Really. You just got a wild hair and said let’s clean?”

“Kind of. We didn’t have anything to do, so why not use our energy to do something good? Do you want us out in the building organizing that?”

“Fuck, no. You’d have guys crying.”

She smiled.

“How much longer for this?” Titan asked.

“I’m not sure. We’ll do what we can, make lunch, and finish it afterward. We have other projects we want to get done, so we might start on one of them.”

Titan gripped her shoulders. “I don’t like you working this hard.”

“I’m not.”

“You’re sweating.”

“Only because I was in the back corner. It’s stuffy back there. I’m about done.”

“I’ll send a toddler in to finish the top. I don’t want you on the ladder again.”

She always thought it was mean to call them that instead of a prospect, but the guys didn’t seem to mind.

“One of the others might try to do it.”

“Hell no, they won’t.” He pulled her out of the closet. “Girls,” he said loudly to get the others’ attention. “I don’t want to see any one of you on that ladder again.”

“But…” Tara started to say.

“No.” He shook his head. “I’ll be telling the other men, and I can guarantee the others will not like it any better than I do.”

They all nodded and watched him walk out.

“Maybe we shouldn’t tell them we already cleaned the tops of the refrigerators and freezers,” Harley said.

Zoe grinned. “Much less pulled them out and cleaned behind them.”

They all agreed that they’d keep that among themselves.

Things were pushed to the side when they needed to start on lunch. This meal was usually easy with sandwich meat, soup, or chili. They keep trying fruit and salads, but the men fight that change.

Jada watched the men that had the old ladies come through the line. Each of them stared intently. She thought the girls did an awesome job of being friendly but subdued. Everybody seemed to notice because the girls usually laughed and had a great time, but now they were just smiling and doing the work. They finished cleaning up the lunch meal when Jada looked at the clock.

“You guys, Lina, Kyra, and I are supposed to be in the store for a few hours. What should we do?” Jada asked.

“No one has said anything to you guys?” Tara asked.

They shook their heads.
