“Did she help?”Drew asked.
Nala nodded, and her eyes filled with tears again.“Yes.She was the nicest person I had met in my whole life.I really believe if it weren’t for her, I would have been caught. She got two tickets for Georgia. She said one was for her husband to throw anyone off.She figured out how to get me on the bus without being seen.We sat in the back, and the first thing she did was pull food out of her bag and hand it to me.I couldn’t help it.I started crying, and she held me for a long time.”
“I’m so glad you found her.”
“I am, too.She gave me an outfit to wear. When we got to her town, she took me home with her.We dyed my hair, and she got several outfits for me at Goodwill. She also got a bag to carry them in.I stayed with her for a few weeks, just until I got stronger, but I had to move on.I was afraid they would find me and hurt her.She was so nice to me.She made me eat three meals a day to gain back my strength.
Drew would find out who she was and send a gift.
He rolled them until she was on her back, and he could look down at her.“I swear that you are safe here. You will never have to deal with him again.I also give my word to make him pay for everything he did to you.”
“How?”
“I’m not sure yet, but it will be done.”
“Can I watch when you hurt him?”
He shook his head.“No, Babe. You’ve had enough violence in your life.”He didn’t want her to have any more. He’d find a way to get the bastard here and then make him regret touching her.
Chapter Nineteen
Drew looked up when someone knocked at his office door.“Come in.”
Jones, his butler who also acts as a guard, stuck his head in.“A Clayton Warner is here to talk to you.”
Drew smiled. The guy was an idiot.Drew had sent an invitation, but he hadn’t thought the man would really come.He had other ideas on how to get to the man, but Clayton made it easy.
“How many men does he have with him?”Drew asked.
“Three.”
“Keep them outside.”
“You got it.”
Drew stood and walked out of his office and down the hall to the entry. His first look at the man made him grit his teeth. The guy stood there like he owned the place and didn’t have a care in the world.
He stood in front of the bastard.“I didn’t think you’d actually come.”
The man smiled.“Of course I would. You have something of mine I want back.”
“Oh, and what is that?”Drew asked.
“My pet.”
Drew’s hands clenched. This fucker was going to feel the same pain he’d caused Nala for so long.
“I’m sorry.I can’t do that.She’s mine now.”
Clayton chuckled.“I bought her, she’s mine.”
“It’s illegal to buy people.Did you not know that?”
Clayton rolled his eyes.“Maybe for the average person, but I’m not average.”
Drew tilted his head to the side.“Did you really think I’d give her to you?”
Clayton nodded.“You will after I tell you what I have to trade.”
