One of Alastair’s brows rose.“Why?”
“My girl will have the marks he put on her for the rest of her life, and I want to show him how it feels.”
Alastair smiled.“I’ll bring one.I’d like him kept alive for as long as possible.”
“Oh, I would, too.If I could keep him alive for a year, I’d do it.It wouldn’t make up for what he did to Nala, but it would make me feel better.”
Alastair slapped his back and nodded before he walked out.
Chapter Twenty
Drew waited until the door closed behind his cousin before he made his way upstairs to his bedroom. When he walked through the door, it was to see Nala looking out the window with her arms around her midsection.
He could tell by the droop of her shoulders and the way she leaned her head against the windowpane that the bastard had done damage by bringing back memories, and he’d make him pay for that.
“Beth’s going to be okay.Alastair’s men found her quickly.”
Nala spun with tears in her eyes.“Really?”
“Yes, Baby.”
He watched her exhale and nod.“Good.Where is…?”
“He’s gone.”
Nala sighed and nodded.“He’ll come back and try again.”
Drew crossed his arms over his chest.“No, Sweetheart, he won’t.”
“You don’t know that.I’m afraid I’m putting you and your family in danger.”
Drew would have rolled his eyes and snorted if he didn’t think it would hurt her feelings. She still didn’t understand the family. He wasn’t worried because she would in time.He just had to make sure she was tied to him in every way.
He walked to her and grasped her shoulders.“You will never have to see him again.”
She studied his expression.“You’re sure?”
“I’m positive.Alastair and I are taking care of him. He’ll never hurt anyone ever again.”
“Is he dead?”
Drew shook his head.“No, Babe.We want to give him a taste of what he put you through.”
Her eyes widened, and he thought she was getting upset, but then a smile spread across her face, and she laughed.
“Can I be there to see it?”
Drew shook his head again.“No.This is my job to take care of you, and you’ll let me do it.”
Nala looked away and then back at him.“I don’t understand why you think you have to do it.We’re just sleeping together.”
Drew’s eyebrows rose.“Really?Didn’t we talk about marriage?”
“But that was when we thought I was in danger, right?”
He studied her face.He could tell she was sad, but he didn’t have time to get into it.He pressed a kiss to her lips.“We’ll talk about this later.I have to go.”
She nodded but didn’t say anything. He didn’t like the resignation on her face.He stopped at the door and glanced back at her.He was just about ready to close the door when she spoke.
