Chapter One
An hour later...
Sergi had just ended the call when he turned his head to glare at Nikoli.“The reports we got earlier were true.Artemy escaped in the chaos after someone blew a hole in the outside wall of the prison.Several others were killed in the explosion and some prisoners escaped with him.The Police back home are hunting the escapees down, but when the dust settled, they found several items that told them that the explosion didn’t come from the Blue Crusaders. They are still trying to track down the group of individuals that blew the prison wall. But Artemy is definitely one of the men that escaped. There were four others that ran.Fourteen other prisoners were injured and three of them were killed outright.”
Nikoli sat back in his chair and thought about Sergi’s words.“So Artemy is free for the moment.Do we have any idea where he would go?”
Sergi shrugged.“Probably right into Anton Kastonovic’s camp.A camp the KGB cannot find.”
Nikoli sighed hard.“Well, so far, everything those sisters said would happen has happened.Their father is out of prison and their network is something we can’t track. We are flying blind here.”
“Perhaps at the moment we are, but you are forgetting we have Nicky and Serenity on our side.”Sergi smiled slightly.“And I would bet they will have something we can use to find these people very soon.”
Nikoli nodded, “Very true.We need to move quickly and quietly in this one.”
“Da, we do,” Sergi agreed with him.“We may have to bring in every marker we have to find this group and Artemy.”
Nikoli nodded again.“And maybe some we don’t even have.”
“They’re getting ready for something big,” Sergi said.“Bigger than Russia has seen in some time.According to the sisters, they plan to take over the government and that is something that cannot happen.Russia will be lost forever if they get power.”
“Da, it will.”
“But we have to find them first, then we will crush them.”Sergi growled.Just then, his phone pinged and he paused at the caller ID.Leon Vincinti. He looked up at Nikoli and raised his brow before answering the call.He hit the speaker button.
“Hello Sergi, this is Leon Vincinti,” Leon wasted no time with pleasantries as he went on, “I think we both have a problem.”
Sergi had seen Leon just a week ago in Boston but he hadn't expected to hear from him.“And what would that problem be Leon?”Sergi asked.
“Dannizone, I was just told that a revolutionary group in Italy just helped to hit one of the Russian prisons.”Leon sighed heavily.“Apparently, they are sister groups and the Russian group needed help from the outside to get certain men out of the facility they hit.I’m sure you, being a leader in the Bratva, understand what this means.”
“Da, I do, I’m a little surprised by your call though.I haven’t been told who the other group was just yet.”
“Si, I know, but I think we, you and I need to get this out in the open.Work together to find both groups and put an end to their shenanigans before they get out of hand, no?”
Sergi caught Nikoli’s gaze and nodded at him.“Da, maybe we should speak.”
“My organization in Italy has been keeping an eye on the group and when they crossed over into your country, I was informed. That was two hours before the prison break. We weren’t exactly sure what they were doing until they actually did it.”
“Do you know where the escapees went?”Sergi asked.
“No, senor, my men have been looking all over Europe for the group but once they left the prison there has been no sign of them.”Leon sighed hard.“We think they are not in either country and we do not know where their final destination is going to be.We do know that they most likely have faked passports. They could be flying anywhere right now.”
Sergi said, “Spaisbo...Thank you for calling me.If you hear anything please contact me with updates.”
Leon sighed.“My people in Italy are worried. They know I was going to call you and they are afraid you will blame us for this breach.”
“Leon, “ Sergi began, “How can I blame you or your people for something like this?I think I know by now what kind of man you are.I can’t speak about your people but your honor is well known. And we are very much alike I think.I do appreciate your call and with this information we may be able to speed along the trail of finding this man.His daughters told us he would be free soon, but I never imagined his freedom would come in this manner.”
“His daughters?”Leon questioned.
“Da, his daughters tried to kidnap my wife.We believed they were going to kill her in front of me then demand money and our seat of power here in New York before they killed me themselves. They had quite the plan, I must admit. You see, they blamed me for sending their father to prison in the first place.Never mind the crime he did to get himself sent there.”
“And what crime did he commit?”Leon asked.
“After being cut off from family funds for whoring around and having babies without putting a ring on the woman’s hand, this Artemy went to his brother for money to live his life on.When his brothers told him no, he murdered him then went on to kill his sister in law and his two small nephews. He murdered an entire family in a rage that couldn’t be restrained. His brother had security footage that showed us everything. He was sentenced to life in prison. His illegitimate daughters had grown up in a group that intended to take over the government for themselves. They cite Artemy as their hero. They call themselves the Blue Crusaders.”
Leon was silent for a long time before he said, “Si, that tracks with our group. The name they are under translates to be the Triple Triangle. They have been in the background for twenty years now but this is their first move against the structure of government in Italy.Over time, they have been building their numbers but now they think they are big enough that they won’t be ignored anymore. At the same time, they blew up your prison, they made their moves in Milan and Rome. They blew up a high end boutique in Milian and hit a museum in Rome. Now the police are hunting them and they are scrambling to stay hidden.”
