“The woman who has you calling in a favor.” Twist giggled. “I mean, I’m pretty sure this isn’t about Demon and that fine brother Mamba.”
“Very pretty.” I leveled my eyes on Nella and watched her blush and looked away.
“Do I need to kick her ass in advance?” Twist asked. “Just to put her on notice.”
I laughed. “No. I like her.”
“Good. Okay, I can’t tell you what number they called from, but I can give you the address where it came from—it looks like a warehouse area.”
“Really?” I asked. I took the pen from Nella and wrote in her hand.
“Thanks Twist,” I told her. “Drinks on me at The Bar next time you’re here?”
“I’m down.” She replied. “Call back if you need me, cool?”
“Very.”
She was gone and I hung up.
“Can you trust this person?” Nella asked.
“Yes.” I replied. “She wanted to kick your butt.”
“She has a thing for you?”
“No.” I shook my head. “She has a group of us who she protects. That includes putting the fear of God into any woman we date—she asks permission first though.”
“Oh.” Nella arched a brow. “As long as she asked permission first.”
“Don’t be scared.” I smirked. “Twist is a good kid.”
Nella grinned. “Okay—so this is where the call came from?”
I nodded.
“Let’s go.” Nella was heading for the door.
I didn’t give Jade a second look as I followed while pressing my phone to my ears.
Mamba picked up on the second ring. I asked him to meet us at the address.
I didn’t think it would hurt to have some backup, especially, since he was closer to the address than we were. I needed him to keep an eye on the place until we got there.
When we arrived at the address, Mamba was already there and parked across the street. We drove from the address and parked in the lot of an abandoned office building to speak with Mamba.
“No one’s been in or out.” Mamba explained and winked at Nella.
She waved. “Do you think anyone is there?”
Mamba looked thoughtful for a second then shrugged. “I’m not sure. But what are the chances no one is there. They probably work on shifts. From what I could see, it’s a big space to go through without help.”
“We would ask Demon, but the baby could come at anytime.” I told them. “Wait—when was the last time we used the drone?”
Mamba chuckled. “Does that thing still work?”
I groaned. “We’re about to find out. But stay here.”
When I tried climbing out of the car, Nella grabbed my arm.
